news Bruce Brown

Throughout his NBA career, Bruce Brown was ignored. He was picked by the Pistons in the second round of the 2018 NBA Draft and two years later traded from Detroit for a second pick in the second round.

Nuggets probably won’t be able to match Bruce Brown’s salary because of his outstanding play.

With the Brooklyn Nets, he flourished in an unusual position, but his tenure in Brooklyn came to an end when Ben Simmons was hired to take on a more expensive version of the same role. The freelance market for him is very weak. When he made Denver’s mid-tier taxpayer exception last season, a total of 31 players made more money than he did as a free agent.

This acquisition appears to be one of the biggest deals of last summer. Brown, a wing of the Swiss Army who has filled nearly every slot for the Nuggets this season, has emerged as Denver’s best backup. Michael Malone could increase his game time and switch to striker Michael Porter Jr. when he’s having a hard time, like he did in Game 2 and 3 of the NBA Finals.

Brown acts as the coach’s backup point guard and shot maker when he needs to rest both Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokic at the same time. He can even act as the center of attack, as he showed in Brooklyn, and excels when deployed as a ball guard outside the short game.

Almost any NBA non-center player can be reliably defended by the 6-foot-4 Brown. With his low mass, he has developed into an average scorer, reliability of the league. He is an underrated playmaker, a dangerous steering wheel that is easily fooled and an excellent counter-attacker thanks to his height. For less than $6.5 million this season, the Nuggets shouldn’t have reached this type of player.

If there was any doubt he’d get a raise this season, Game 4 of the NBA Finals put an end to that. Brown stepped up and scored 11 of his 21 points to secure the Nuggets’ 108-95 win, bringing the Heat to the brink of elimination, with Nikola Jokic sidelined for most of the fourth half due to fouls. While Brown’s fate as a former Nugget may have been sealed by that remarkable streak, it may well have effectively cemented Denver’s first championship.
