During the 18th episode of the second season of the show, Captain Holt shared with his team the riddle of ’12 men on the island’ and it confused them. The puzzle resurfaced on social media when an individual shared it on Reddit. “What was the answer to Captain Holt’s puzzle?” Reddit user @AbbeySouth44 wrote. The user then added a head-scratching puzzle.
“There are 12 men on the island. 11 weigh exactly the same, but one of them is slightly lighter or heavier. You have to figure out which one. There is no exit from the island, but there is a seesaw. An exciting catch? You can only use it three times,” the puzzle reads.
The post was shared a few months ago. It has since received several comments from people. While some tried to solve the puzzle, a few said they were confused by it.
“In this puzzle, are we just supposed to ASSUME that the seesaw is perfectly balanced like some architectural phenomenon on a desert island!?” wrote a Reddit user. “Why don’t you just weigh 6 by 6, one side will be lighter so weigh those 3 by 3 and then pick 2 from the lighter side to weigh last. If it is even, then the 3rd is easier? Am I missing something?” suggested another. “My head is spinning,” said a third.
