Can you use PSVR2 on PC?

There are a decent number of VR headsets on the market now, and the newest headset on the block, the PlayStation VR2, is one of the most powerful in terms of technology. This update to the original PSVR brings many improvements over the original design, including reducing the cables required to just USB-C. Since it’s the only headset on the market made by a console manufacturer, many PC gamers may wonder if PSVR2 would be a worthwhile investment if they could use it on their PCs as well.

If you’re primarily a PC gamer or don’t have a PlayStation 5 yet and are interested in PSVR2, here’s whether or not it will work on other hardware.

Does PSVR2 work on PC?

A deck of cards and a board game.

The short and not so sweet answer is no. PSVR2 is not made to run on any PC and only plugs into your PS5 to work. PSVR2 uses the power of the PS5 to run, without an internal power supply like Meta Quest 2, meaning it relies on the console to run. Switching from the proprietary cables and boxes that connected the PSVR to the PS4 to a USB-C cable gave hope that next-gen headsets could enable PC connectivity, however that was not to be. While it’s possible that Sony will eventually update the headset or create a PC-specific platform that allows you to play PSVR2 on your PC, it’s highly unlikely. For now, unless you have a PS5, the PSVR2 won’t do you any good.
