The hit Showtime drama Chi returned for its fifth season on Sunday, June 26 with the return of the main cast of Jacob Latimore, Alex Hibbert, Yolanda Ross, Shamon Brown Jr., Michael V. Epps, Birgundi Baker, Luke James, and Curtiss Cook. The Chi season 5 will also welcome some new faces, one of them being Russian Doll actress Carolyn Michelle Smith.

As a child, Carolyn Michelle Smith attended a private international elementary school in the Washington, DC area. In 2002, she graduated from Fordham University at Lincoln Center in New York with a BA in Theater Arts.
In 2008 Carolyn joined the prestigious Juilliard School where she studied theater arts. She also studied acting and theater in midsummer at the British American Drama Academy in Oxford.
After graduating, Carolyn took part in Katori Hall’s latest play ‘WHADDABLOODCLOT!!!’ at the Williamstown Theater Festival. She then made her Off-Broadway debut in “Hit The Wall” at The Barrow Street Theatre.
Carolyn’s Broadway debut was in the 2013 production of Romeo and Juliet, starring Orlando Bloom and Condola Rashad and directed by David Leveaux. Some of Carolyn’s other theater credits include Soldier X (Ma-Yi Theater Company, NYC) and Serial. Black. Face (Juilliard/Signature Theatre, New York).
In 2014, Carolyn joined Netflix’s award-winning series House of Cards, starring Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright. She played the role of Willa Penton, Claire Underwood’s (Robin Wright) chief of staff, in seasons 2 and 3 of the series.
The Chi star also worked with Oscar-winning director Steve McQueen on HBO’s Code of Conduct and producer/director Jonathan Starch on NBC’s Law & Order.
Carolyn starred in another hit Netflix series, Russian Doll Season 2, playing Agnes, Alan’s (Charlie Barnett) grandmother.
Some of Carolyn’s acting credits include Cherish The Day, Luke Cage, The Oath, Colony, How to Get Away with Murder, and Code Black to name a few.
According to Carolyn’s LinkedIn, she currently works at Hillman Grad Productions as co-director of Acting Track-Hillman Road.
