Carroll Shelby's 1965 Shelby 427 Cobra sold for about $ 6 million

Shelby owned it until his death in 2012

The 1965 Shelby Cobra owned by Carroll Shelby the day it was built until his death in 2012 sold for around $5.94 million, among the highest prices ever paid for an American car.

The car was completed in March 1966 on a 1965 AC Ace chassis by AC Cars of England and was purchased by Shelby for $6,273, as stated on the first invoice.

Shelby modified it several times over the years with different colors and a stronger engine, but it was completely restored to its original specification in 2019 by the consignor, who bought it in 2016.

The total payout was the second largest Cobra ever purchased behind the first ever built, which sold at auction in 2016 for around $13.8 million.
