He plays football in Florence, goes to Lazio spas and performs on stage in a night club in Capri. Unfortunately, his wife Catherine has to retire so he has to do all the activities alone.
He replied: “It was part of the idea, likely to be filmed, but probably not when he was asked if Catherine would come with him. Unlike her husband, she is actually quite a reserved, shy person.
But we had masons, so we couldn’t, and we waited a long time for those builders, and my wife was pretty nervous, so not this time. The goal is for her to come and spend at least some time with us. But Catherine will be there because we go to Italy every year and we will do it in August.
“I went there for my 40th birthday and it was beautiful; we were on the Amalfi coast. It’s a special place for us as a couple; we go there every year with a group of friends and have fun. “It’s a special place for both of us.” He would ask locals to take photos and videos of him during his trip so he could pass them on to his wife back home.
He explains his inspiration for this thoughtful act by saying, “I tried to put her in there a little bit by sending pictures because it’s a place we both know very well.”
The London premiere of his book on Swiss cheese in 1992 was when the Mastermind presenter first met his wife, who at the time worked in the publishing industry.
They married at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Covent Garden, where he claimed it was love at first sight.
After returning to the UK for their big day, they flew to the US before honeymooning on the coast of Maracaibo in Venezuela as Clive was recently appointed BBC’s LA Correspondent.
