CBME Guidelines 2023: According to the latest updates, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has withdrawn its decision to lower the pass marks for MBBS subjects having two papers to 40%. The commission issued a notification and said that amending the guidelines of Curriculum Based Medical Education (CBME) is “not possible”. In September, the NMC notified an amendment to the CBME guidelines. The regulations include new rules on MBBS curriculum, admission process, academic calendar, etc.

What was the new amended page 58 of the CBME guidelines?

As per the amendment, the MBBS pass marks have been reduced from 50% to 40%. “In subjects that have two papers, the student must secure at least 40% of points in total (both papers combined) to pass the said subject,” the amendment states.

However, the NMC reversed its decision. Referring to this new amendment, the Commission has now stated: “After a thorough consideration of the matter, it has been decided that retroactive effect in this regard is not possible.” Check the table below for better understanding:
