Superintendent Penny Bulpitt, a grandmother in her 60s, was said to be doing some work in a car park when the horror unfolded in Bedfordshire on Friday night.

Penny was rushed to the hospital, where she later died.

In an online tribute, her family said: “This is such a terrible shock and heartbreak for us as Nan is the backbone of our family.”

While Penny’s sister-in-law Anna Northwood also paid a moving tribute.

She told The Sun: “She was a fantastic mum and grandmother. We will surely miss him.”

Cars are prohibited on the roads of the resort, except for leaving and leaving the accommodation parking lot on Mondays and Fridays.

Center Parks said: “We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of one of our team at Woburn Forest, our thoughts are with her family, friends and colleagues at this time.

“We are in contact with her family and offer our support to them and to all our colleagues at Woburn Forest who have been affected.

“Center Parcs is working closely with all relevant authorities following this incident.”

A spokesman for East of England Ambulance Service added: “We were called at 12.17pm on September 22 to reports of an unconscious person in Fordfield Road, Millbrook.

“We dispatched the East Anglian Air Ambulance and an ambulance.

“The woman was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital by ambulance.”

Detective Sergeant Craig Wheeler of Bedfordshire Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “We are investigating a reported collision between a vehicle and a member of staff at Center Parcs Woburn Forest on Friday 22nd September.

“The member of staff was taken to hospital for treatment but sadly died later that day. Our thoughts remain with her family.”

Center Parcs in Woburn is the group’s latest UK resort, boasting a subtropical pool and spa.

The resort company was founded in the Netherlands in 1968 and currently has five locations in the UK including Woburn.

The others are Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire, Whinfell Forest in Cumbria’s Lake District, Longleat Forest in Wiltshire and Elveden Forest in Suffolk.

There is also a Center Parcs resort near Ballymahon, Ireland, which recently opened in 2019.

Brookfield Property Partners, which has owned the chain since 2015, is currently looking to sell the company.
