If the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) successfully completes the Chandrayaan 3 mission, India will join the exclusive list of only three other countries that have made a gentle landing on the moon – the United States, the former Soviet Union and most recently China.
Both the United States and the Soviet Union experienced many spacecraft crashes before successfully landing on the moon. China stands out as the only country to achieve success in its first attempt with the Chang’e-3 mission in 2013.
Chandrayaan 3 has several important events ahead, including maneuvers involving the Earth, launch into lunar orbit, lander separation, a series of deceleration maneuvers, and a hard landing phase for a gentle landing. P Veeramuthuvel, Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft project manager, gave this information.

July 25 – Chandrayaan-3, is set to perform its fifth and final Earth orbit lift on Tuesday as it enters its final phase before leaving Earth and traveling to the Moon. Today, between 2 and 3 p.m. IST, the spacecraft will perform its fifth orbital lift, propelling it into Earth-Moon orbit. Eventually, the Moon’s gravity will pull Chandrayaan-3 into lunar orbit, setting the stage for the next phase of this landmark mission.

ISRO has officially confirmed the successful completion of the third orbital lift, which was conducted between 2 and 3 p.m. IST on Tuesday, July 18. The spacecraft is currently orbiting Earth at a closest distance of 228 km and a maximum distance of 51,400 km. The next shot is scheduled for Thursday, July 20, from 2:00pm to 3:00pm IST.

As of July 25, ISRO has confirmed the new orbital parameters of Chandrayaan. In its final orbit, the spacecraft will be 233 km from the nearest Earth and 71,351 km at the farthest.
