Cody’s day probably started like any other day. He would kill his family. It was a hot summer day in Honda, New Mexico on July 5, 2004. Cody lived on a ranch owned by well-known journalist and journalist Sam Donaldson with his father Paul Posey (age 34), stepmother Tryona (age 44) and half-sister Marilea Schmid (age 13 year).
The blended family seemed content and typical to the Poseys’ observers. Others with a clearer perspective could see that several dark demons were nearby. However, the family was the only one who was aware of the entire tragedy and evil that took place within the walls of Chavez Canyon.
Long-kept secrets finally come to light when Sam Donaldson stumbles upon the bloody crime scene Cody left behind. It seems unlikely that Cody Posey’s father’s slap was the final straw for him to lose after all that had gone before. Paul Posey would never hit his son again after that 4th of July punch.
Cody finally lost it at that point, went outside and took the shotgun out of his sister’s saddlebag. He approached his stepmother Tryone from behind while she was sitting on the couch reading a book and shot her twice in the back of the head. He fired when his father Paul entered the house; his half-sister Marilea, who entered behind his father, was the last victim.
Donaldson himself visited the ranch on July 6, the day after the murders, and was greeted by a scene like something out of a horror movie: blood and broken glass were everywhere.
He immediately informed the police, who quickly found the shallow graves. The next day, July 7, 2004, two days after the murders, Cody was arrested and charged with murdering his family.
