Their two-story floating residence in Thorne Bay, Alaska requires a lot of maintenance. They are surrounded by forests and water on Prince Wales Island, where there is no passing traffic. Cole said, “If you don’t maintain, nature will reclaim everything that has been taken from it.” They also own a boat that Cole regularly goes to get their daily food.

Then after a week, you have to move out of the hospital on your own and live in a motel room, go take care of your baby every hour for another week in intensive care. To then return home with your child and practically carry on as if life simply had to go on.”
