At the age of almost nine, Nolan made her television debut on February 5, 1974, when the Nolans appeared on It’s Cliff Richard! television program. They played “Stuck on You” as The Nolan Sisters, a lineup consisting of all six sisters.
The following year, they released their first single, “But I Do”, with Nolan on lead vocals. Nolan appeared in the music video for the group’s 1979 hit “I’m In the Mood for Dancing,” which reached number three in the UK singles chart, but she would not join the group as a full-time member until 1980, when she was fifteen. With “Don’t Make Waves” (1980), “Gotta Pull Me Together” (1980), “Who’s Gonna Rock You” (1981), “Attention to Me” (1981), “Chemistry” (1981 .) and “Don’t Love Me Too Hard” (1982), the group achieved further UK top twenty hit success. Their performance of “Sexy Music” helped them win the 1981 Tokyo Music Festival.
