Only 13 farmers signed up for the cabin in 1986, he says. Since 2016 newcomers Stephanie and Michael Tuner have committed to the cabin, there have been more than 100 applicants. “There’s going to be a huge administrative avalanche on the shack today,” Wehrle said. He talks about hygiene standards, kitchen rules and staff administration. “I have to document every hour of the mini-jobber,” says the tuner. This 1369 meters above sea level is no different than in the valley. The cabin itself has not changed in all the years. The tuner only came with a new hot air oven in the kitchen, as well as an electronic cash register system. Pencil and paper for work, as in the case of Wehrle. Speaking of the kitchen: there are a few more dishes, since the tuner took over the reintalanger hut. “Before, I was just a Kasseler with sauerkraut, meatloaf, noodles and fried meat,” says Wehrle. Guests expect more and more
guests will always expect more, say both hosts. Many visitors are no longer satisfied with coffee. Then it should be at least Cappuccino, Latte Macchiato or iced coffee. “Many guests ask for too much,” says the owner of the cabin. Not only culinary. Constant hot water, electricity for smartphones, garbage disposal: “The expectation of a mountain hut is too high,” says the tuner. Plastic remains are a big problem. “No one understands that we need to take the garbage to the valley with the help of a helicopter.” Even in the cracks in the wood of the benches, some visitors hide their trash.

guests rain on the hut
