Covid-19 : the calls are growing for the generalisation of the port of the mask company

Experts are increasingly calling for the mask to be mandatory for companies, which have been discovered in numerous contamination hotspots.

Will the Ministry of Labor’s new deconfinement protocol require wearing a mask in the company? He’s on the right track. On Friday and Tuesday, meetings are planned in rue de Grenelle with union leaders and employers to adapt this protocol.

“The current protocol is outdated, it should definitely be renewed: it’s based on physical separation, it doesn’t really make sense,” says Martin Blachier, a public health doctor and co-head of the consulting firm Public Health Expertise.

The protocol mandates the wearing of a mask only when the distance of one meter is not respected. The employee must also wear it when brought into contact within one meter of a social group that freely consists of people not wearing a mask.

According to this protocol, “the mask is a complement of gestures, a barrier (…) Before thinking about a port mask, the employer is therefore obliged to implement all technical solutions and organizational collective protection to avoid or reduce the risk”.

However, since a few days, while more and more cities are imposing the wearing of masks outside – about the usefulness of which there is no consensus in the fight against the Covid-19 epidemic – the medical profession believes that it is in an enterprise that must first of all be generalized.

“let’s make the mask mandatory in all places”

“50% of the cluster is business, medical or non-medical. Hospitals, which is about 10% of the cluster, medical-social facilities, long-term care facilities, it is 20%, and private companies 20%. Make the mask mandatory in all closed premises, including business, private!” Eric Caumes, head of the department of infectious diseases at the Pitié Salpêtrière hospital in Paris, insisted to France Info on Thursday.

on this day, according to the regional Health Agency Francilienne, 69 foci of infection are active in Ile-de-France, 25% from professional backgrounds (private/public).

According to several sources, six cases of Covid-19 have been detected and several have been placed in isolation among employees of the Fnac store in Paris, where a mask has been mandatory since May 11 for all employees, service providers and customers.

“Under psychological,”

Michaël Rochoy, a general practitioner in Pas-de-Calais, a member of the group Stop talking to them, which has been campaigning for the wider use of masks since March, believes that “forced disinfection procedures are excessive when it is done not to impose a mask”. “All other things come after.”

Among the other measures, the now traditional hygiene recommendations stand out (regular hand washing, systematic covering of the nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing into the elbow, not shaking hands…).

It also requires, among other things, regular ventilation (every 3 hours) of closed parts for 15 minutes; regularly clean objects and surfaces with a product that is active against viruses, put waste that is likely to be contaminated in garbage cans that cannot be opened manually, stay at home in case of symptoms (cough, difficulty breathing, etc.).

Interviewed on Thursday about the mandatory wearing of masks in companies, union officials were quite favorable. “Everything depends on the quality of the masks, recovery and control, which raises a lot of questions about governance, sanctions,” lead Claude Quinquis of the CGT to the Post.

To Samuel Berthelot (Unsa at the Post), if “the connection of the mask is quite noticeable”, “the Post does not go far enough, accepting that people start signing on paper (recommended) with the same pen that was passed from hand to hand”.

In Orange, Sébastien Crozier (CFE-CGC) believes that “even if this is not the most effective measure, and we can ask again about its ability to actually protect, it has insufficient psychological security: this is a constant reminder to be awake”.
