The best settings to change to improve PS4 performance
To change the visual settings of the game, press odds on your DualShock (or DualSense if you’re on a PS5) and skip to settings. tab for Graphics pressing R1 and you will see a list of options that you can change. These are the recommended settings:
- Film Grain: Off
- Chromatic aberration: off
- Depth of Field: On
- Lens Flare: On
- Motion Blur: Off
It might be hard to tell, but if you have the above settings, the image will look a bit sharper than it is by default. We also recommend tabulating for Video and turning off HDR mode completely. This will give you a clearer image that would otherwise appear dark and blurry.

Again, it might be hard to tell, but the image at the bottom is a bit clearer. Look at the pipe on the left side of the screen. The image above is a bit more blurry and confusing.
Oddly enough, disabling HDR improves visuals, which is the opposite of what you might think. For whatever reason, enabling HDR causes much darker images to appear on the screen, making it difficult to read.
Changing this setting will only slightly affect your experience, but until CD Projekt RED releases a major patch that fixes all of your visual flaws, you’ll have to make do with what you have. Keep in mind that the game runs best on the PS5, slightly worse on the PS4 Pro, and even worse on the base PS4, so your mileage will vary depending on which machine you have. On consoles, you can only play the game at 60 frames per second if you’re on a PS5 or Xbox Series X, which looks much better than their last-gen counterparts.
