Danielle Ballard News

Danielle Ballard, a former LSU women’s basketball player, passed away on Thursday after being hit by a car. Ballard, 29, was transported from the scene of an accident that was reported to emergency dispatchers at 1:26 a.m., according to Memphis police, and later “succumbed to her injuries” at a hospital.

Authorities said an investigation is ongoing and in its early phases but have not named the driver of the car that struck Ballard or released any information.

From 2012 to 2015, Memphis-native Ballard played guard for LSU. When the Tigers reached to the third round of the NCAA Tournament in 2013 and 2014, she was one of the team’s top players, averaging 12.1 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 2.8 assists. She received 2015 All-SEC honours as well.

Danielle’s passing has left us very heartbroken, according to a statement from LSU. “She was a huge part of our women’s basketball family and meant a lot to our programme. Why this happened to someone who was so full of life and so full of promise is impossible to comprehend.
