Denese Butler in HGTV’s Fix My Frankenhouse
In 2023, HGTV once again found a niche and Frankenhouses was born. The renovation program was hosted by Denese and her husband, Mike Butler, who have been fixing up “houses that have had a lot of renovations throughout their lives, at different periods of time. The kind of houses that have had additions that don’t really make sense.”
As can be seen from the brief review, the wife/husband repaired the house with seven different types of floors, six stairs, three balconies, and two additions to the house. Very rare.
“Solving problems for families living in houses like this is my favorite part of the job,” Mike said. “To fix houses, I modify floor plans and create new designs that really work.”
Explaining his work as well, Denese added, “Once we update the design, I bring the flow back to the house with a cohesive modern design.”
Looking back, HGTV discovered Denese and her husband via Instagram. In fact, it wasn’t just HGTV that had its eye on the couple. Denese said she was approached by multiple production companies to produce the 2019 TV show and “ultimately chose a company that aligns with our visions and goals.”
Developing the program took three years of planning, he added. And when filming wrapped, they were beyond excited for everyone to see how much effort they put into the series. Also, through a post on IG, they thanked all the “key players” who helped them throughout their work in BTS.
Mike and Denise Butler’s relationship
Denese married her husband Butler on April 21, 2012, saying, “I’m crazy about this white guy,” in front of her friends and family. This sentence was the same one Denese said as she ran up and down the stairs, a few days after she went on her first date with Mike in Brooklyn Bridge Park in 2005.
Now, as of 2023, the two have been married for over 11 years and share three children. “When I think about our life’s journey, it amazes me how God took two strangers and brought us together to create this beautiful life. If I find an opportunity to stop and think, I always remind myself of where we started and how far we’ve come,” she said.
Speaking of his children, the eldest, Ellis, turned six in April 2023. He is “definitely one of a kind. The light from him shines so bright and we hope it reaches people all over the world,” Denese said.
As for Felix, he turned 4 in April 2023. He is an “incredibly kind, good, intrepid and brave” boy.
The youngest Lucy just celebrated her first birthday on October 16, 2022.
So yes, Denese was pregnant while filming Frankenhouses. No wonder everyone always asked them how “do you guys do this with THREE little kids?” before they responded with “it takes a town and a lot of Jesus”.
Fun fact: Mike thinks he met Denese when she had colorful hair and a shaved head. Well, she got it all wrong.
