After a conflict with the management of the home, he left the building and did not return. Diao was last seen wearing a red coat with black trim, and authorities did not notify her family until January 19, when she was reported missing.

The discovery of Dia’s remains was first reported by a sanitation worker in January, who found what was initially thought to be pork in a bag.
