Shortly after the expiry of the approval for the use of this drug to treat Covid-19 in the hospital, Professor Didier Raoult published on Wednesday evening the summary of a study carried out on 3737 patients treated at the IHU Méditerranée Infection, which he manages.

“No torsades de pointes (irregular heartbeats) have been reported, nor sudden deaths,” the Marseille epidemiologist said on Twitter, responding to a publication last week in the Lancet medical journal warning of the adverse effects of hydroxychloroquine. A new study
“Early diagnosis, early isolation and early treatment with at least three days of hydroxychloroquine-azithromycin (HCQ-AZ) allow for a significantly better clinical outcome and infectivity in patients with Covid-19 than other treatments,” says Professor Raoult’s study.

This study is based on “the clinical treatment of 3,737 patients, of whom 3,054 (81.7%) were treated with HCQ-AZ for at least three days and 683 (18.3%) patients were treated with other methods.”

Pr Didier Raoult has published several studies which he says show that the effectiveness of hydroxychloroquine is related to the antibiotic, azithromycin.
