Dinosaur or medical term: Quiz session with doctors turns hilarious

‘Opisthocoelicaudia’ – what do you think this word means? More specifically, do you think it’s a medical term or a dinosaur? Can’t decide? You are not alone. A group of pediatric residents also had a hard time playing a quiz that challenged them to guess whether a word they heard was a medical term or a dinosaur. A video showing this hilarious quiz has been shared on social media and will probably make you laugh.

Paul Tran, a pediatric gastroenterologist and medical educator, took to Instagram to share the video. “Dinosaur or medical terms with pediatric residents at a medical conference. I know I’m probably butchering this excuse,” Tran wrote while sharing the video.

The clip opens to show Tran in front of the camera holding a microphone. He then invites pediatric specialists to participate in the quiz. It’s funny to watch doctors get completely confused as they try to guess whether the word they’re hearing describes a member of an extinct species or an actual medical term. While most doctors fail to answer correctly and react with loud laughter, a few successfully solve the quiz.

How did Instagram users react to this video?

“This is very difficult because dinosaurs are named in anatomical Latin, so many of their names sound similar to medical terms, they even have the same prefixes and suffixes as common terms, I was really fooled by some dinosaurs,” the Instagram user announced. “I would love to see them read the words instead of hearing them! It could be an easier medical terminology test if they know their Greek and Latin roots, prefixes and suffixes,” another added.

“Half of them were Pokémon and you can’t tell me otherwise,” joked a third. “I love this game, especially when you throw Pokémon into the mix,” added a fourth. “Ross Geller wants to know your address,” commented a fifth, referring to the character who worked as a paleontologist in the famous drama series Friends. “I was 99% wrong,” wrote a sixth.
