Does the Pixel 6a have an SD card slot? How the phone handles expandable storage

In a perfect world, all smartphones would come with some form of expandable storage, including phones like the Google Pixel 6a. People take so many selfies, photos, and videos on their phones, as well as download games and apps that can eat up tons of storage space. Unfortunately, as useful as expandable storage with SD cards is, very few phones have it these days.

In the case of Google, in particular, MicroSD card expansion has never been supported for its Pixel devices. Whether it’s the original Pixel from 2016 or the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro from last year, we’ve never seen a Pixel with an SD card slot. Now that the Pixel 6a has hit the market, can you expect it to have the SD card slot its predecessors lacked? Unfortunately, the answer is no. Pixel 6a does that No They have an SD card slot.

The lack of a MicroSD card slot on the Pixel 6a shouldn’t come as a complete surprise. The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro also lack this feature. Google’s omission of that feature from the 6a, and its predecessors, comes down to price. Most Android smartphones supported microSD cards a few years ago, but in recent years, the high cost of manufacturing and shipping microSD-compatible phones has made it a rarity. Essentially, Google (and other companies) sacrificed expandable storage for a sleeker design and lower costs.

Easy to store Pixel 6a alternatives

At $449, the Pixel 6a already has 128GB of internal storage, so the lack of a microSD card slot is somewhat justified. However, if you really want more storage space for the indescribable amount of images, games, and other content you’ll rack up for the same price, the Samsung Galaxy A53 5G might be your best bet. It has 128GB of storage like the Pixel 6a, but has managed to keep the microSD card so you can increase the device’s storage to your heart’s content. In fact, the A53 5G supports MicroSD cards up to 1TB in size.

The OnePlus Nord N200 is also a great alternative. It has 64 GB of internal storage, which is not much by today’s standards. It does, however, retain a microSD card slot so you can increase storage even further for a modest $240.
