Doll’s Eyes: Pic of delirium-causing plant will give you creepy vibes

There are hundreds of strange plants that inhabit our planet, and Actaea pachypoda, also called doll’s eyes, is one of them. The US National Park Service shared a picture of this extremely unusual plant on Instagram. They also shared a headline explaining more about a plant that is not poisonous to birds but is poisonous to humans.

“My poisonous trait is that I am poisonous. Is that plant looking at me? Boo! Actaea pachypoda, white berry or doll’s eyes, is a species of flowering plant in the genus Actaea, in the Ranunculaceae family. The most striking feature of the plant is its fruit, a white berry 1 cm in diameter, whose size, shape and black stigma scar give the species the name ‘doll’s eyes’. Did he just blink? Not. Jesi”, humorously wrote the park introducing the plant.

“A variety of birds, unaffected by the toxins or the creepy eyeball aesthetic, eat the berries and help disperse the seeds. However, the berries and the whole plant are considered poisonous to humans and can cause vomiting, delirium and stomach cramps. On that note, don’t eat it and enjoy it,” they added.

Park concluded the post with a description of the image they shared. “The eye is what I am the eye. Blooming white baneberry with pinkish-red stem and black-dotted white berries and fall foliage in Shenandoah National Park,” they shared.
