Emma (Leigh) Broyles, the 100th Anniversary Miss America is the first Miss Alaska to be crowned Miss America. She is also the first holder of the title, the first American of Korean descent. Most Americans know who Emma is. But did you also know about her brothers?
Emma was born in Anchorage, Alaska, the daughter of Julie and Ronald Broyles. But she is not the only one born to these wonderful parents. Let’s find out who they are.

Emma Broyles is the middle child because she was born after her older brother Brendan Broyles and before the youngest of the family, her brother Benjamin Broyles.
Like Emma, Brendan and Benjamin are second-generation Korean-Americans. Her maternal grandparents, Myung “Sarah” Kim and Boo Yul “Paul” Kim, first immigrated to the United States more than 50 years ago, shortly before her mother was born.

Emma opened up about the incident when she first realized her brother was different. Her mother enrolled Brendan in her local Special Olympics chapter. At that moment, she said, he had this almost maternal instinct, a brotherly instinct, to take care of him and make sure he had the same opportunities as she did.
This is how brothers and sisters have always been united. In a Facebook post from August 2021, her mother wrote that it was difficult for Brendan when Emma left for university two years ago. He missed her and asked about her all the time. Two years later, Brendan was going through the same thing again when his brother Ben left him.
