Washington Post columnist and MSNBC analyst Eugene Robinson called President Biden’s Thursday speech in Philadelphia a “wartime emergency address,” continuing MSNBC’s current view of a potential civil war.
During an appearance Friday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Robinson echoed Biden’s remarks when he said the country was now engaged in a “battle” to save its democracy. He said he was unaware of the “motivations” or “delusions” that prompted the so-called MAGA Republicans to follow their “authoritarian path”.
Robinson continued: “He presented this as an emergency. “It is something our nation must unite against to stop, reverse, and revert to our democratic practices and beliefs. Besides, it seems important and related to the battle.

When she was a guest on MSNBC’s “The ReidOut” last month, the host made such a request. “People keep saying civil war is coming, but I would say civil war is here,” she noted.
Biden’s speech in Philadelphia, according to leftist historian Michael Beschloss, was influenced by the president’s speeches to two of the country’s most important conflicts.
Beschloss told MSNBC he spoke with President Biden about the state of the United States and historical similarities earlier this summer, and later suggested that influenced Biden’s speech. He recalled President Abraham Lincoln’s speech and the events leading up to the American Civil War.
