Florence Welch rushed to hospital for life-saving emergency surgery as band cancels shows

FLORENCE Welch has revealed she has been rushed to hospital for emergency surgery and has canceled a string of shows.

The Florence and the Machine singer, 36, opened up to fans about the surgery that saved her life and why the band won’t be playing several of their scheduled European shows.

She wrote: “I’m so sorry I had to cancel my last few shows. My feet are fine, I had to have emergency surgery for reasons I don’t feel strong enough for yet, but it saved my life.

“I’ll be back to finish the Dance Fever tour in Lisbon and Malaga (maybe I won’t jump as much, but you can do it for me).

“Suffice it to say, I wish the songs were less accurate in their predictions. But creativity is a way of coping, mythology is a way of making sense.

“And the dark tale of Dave Fever, with all its strange prophecies, will give me much-needed strength and catharsis right now.”

Fans flocked to wish her well, writing: “So glad to hear you’re ok now, take care and we’ll dance for you. Take care, your health is more important than performing live.”

Another said: “Take care mother!!! We love you so much!”

A third posted: “Put yourself first! We love you and I’ll be thinking of you. May she be your queen.”

Last week, Florence informed fans that the band will not be playing the Zurich Open Air Festival on August 25th or Rock En Seine on August 26th due to medical reasons.

The band’s last performance took place when they performed at Boardmasters in Cornwall on August 13th.

Their hit-packed 18-song set included fan favorites Dog Days Are Over, King and You Got The Love.

Last year, Florence was forced to cancel her UK tour dates after suffering a foot injury.

Writing on social media at the time, she said: “I’m sorry to say that after an x-ray it looks like I danced on a broken foot last night.

“It’s not in my nature to postpone a show, especially not a UK tour, but I’m in pain and as dancers know, dancing on an injury is not a good idea. I’ve been told not to perform to avoid further damage.”
