A talented fan artist has created a version of Golden Freddy in the glamrock style of Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach. Security Breach‘s striking visuals and engaging FNAF characters have been the inspiration for plenty of fan art since the game’s release. The art often depicts iconic characters like Freddy in new situations or with overhauled designs, putting interesting twists on canon outfits or character versions.
Since the character’s mysterious first appearance in FNAF 1, Golden Freddy’s backstory has been filled out to make it one of the oldest and most significant animatronics in the setting. Originally named Fredbear in-universe, it stood on stage alongside Spring Bonnie in Fredbear’s Family Diner until becoming instrumental in the death of the Crying Child, believed by many to be named Evan Afton. Commonly appearing as a slumped-over body, the character’s design has remained relatively unaltered over the course of the franchise, having been retired by Fazbear Entertainment long before the events of the games. His counterpart Spring Bonnie, on the other hand, has seen much more varied designs and has become the basis for the nightmarish animatronic villain Springtrap.
Now Golden Freddy has at long last received an update, courtesy of fan artist Snartles on Twitter. Glamrock Golden Freddy is pitched as being an “older/retired version” of Glamrock Freddy, similar to how Fredbear was succeeded by the original version of Freddy Fazbear. The purple highlights associated with Fredbear have been carried over to various details of this new version, including a purple lightning bolt mark over one eye. At the same time, as an old model, the animatronic is visibly damaged and in need of repair. As with its predecessor, this version of FNAF’s Golden Freddy has been left to gather dust.
Snartles’ fan art is also very spooky, with wisps of darkness pouring out from all over Glamrock Golden Freddy and a disconnected left arm floating in place. An alternate version of Snartles’ art amplifies the horror by having the supernatural darkness populated by multiple pairs of eyes. It is very clear to the viewer that some powerful supernatural force has gained control over the old animatronic, and it doesn’t look particularly friendly. It could be that one or more ghosts created through the actions of Springtrap and Vanny are behind Glamrock Golden Freddy’s animation. In either case, this FNAF fan work’s visual impact is brilliantly chilling.
Ultimately, Snartles’ work depicts an unlikely turn of events, though far from an unwelcome one. Canonically, the character of Fredbear has more or less been forgotten by the time of Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach. The timeline covers decades at this point, and the mascot of an old and forgotten diner would seem to have no place in the flashy glamor of the Mega Pizzaplex. Nevertheless, it is still cool for fans of Five Nights at Freddy’s to see what could have been. This Glamrock Golden Freddy definitely stands out from the crowd and would make for a brilliantly scary addition to any Pizzaplex.
