Following the incident with Nicolás, the former police officer was charged with second-degree murder, two counts of aggravated kidnapping, two counts of official misconduct, aggravated assault, and one count of official oppression.
According to CNN, second-degree murder in Tennessee is defined as the “knowing murder of another person” and is considered a Class A felony punishable by 15 to 60 years in prison.
