What are expansions in Fortnite?
Augments, or Reality Augments, are a new perk system introduced in Fortnite. There are currently 20 boosts in the game, but there are a total of 32 that change with each season. You can gain access to multiple expansions during a single match, but the expansions do not carry over after the match ends, whether you win or lose. These perks can range from modifying certain types of weapons to granting enhancements to perform actions and more. There are no bad supplements, so you will want to get as many as you can. Extensions also have their own tab in your menu where you can see which ones you’ve had so far to track your progress using them all.
How to use Fortnite expansions
Unlike weapons, items and most things in the Fortnite, you will not find or loot expansions on the map itself. Instead, the expansions are distributed to all surviving players for the duration of the match. After about two and a half minutes into the game, you will be given a choice of two boosts to place in one of four slots. After picking the first one, you’ll get another pair to pick every two and a half minutes until you survive and the game ends. If you’re trying to complete an expansion tab, look for expansions with the word “new” next to it to indicate that it’s one you’ve never used before, and unlock it.
If neither of the two extensions featured looks good, you can also long-press the interact button at the bottom to cycle through your options again. You can reroll once for free, but if you have to reroll it will cost you 100 gold bars.
However, even if the boost is passive, you still need to activate it. To do this, press right on the D-pad (or your platform’s equivalent) to bring up the zoom menu, highlight which one you want to use, and activate it with the right trigger.
