Possibly one of the most interesting parts of the base game, Mythic Tales tells the stories of Japanese folklore and sends Jin on epic quests to unlock legendary items. The story of the Black Hand Rik
Upon reaching the island of Iki, you will be able to travel wherever you want. Unlike the areas of Tsushima that were locked down by story progression, Iki Island is wide open. However, we suggest that you complete the main story called Jin of Yarikawa before venturing into Mythic Tales.

Follow the guidance of the wind to the narrator and hear the story of Black Hand Riku, a ruthless pirate overthrown by his crew. Fortunately, his cursed Sarugami armor saved his life, but the rebellion blinded him. The captain had to trust his pet monkey to get him to safety. Riku is starting to sound a lot like Captain Barbossa from Pirates of the Caribbean.
Jin’s journey will take him to the base of the Thunderhead Cliffs and a dark cave on the northeast coast of Iki Island. As you explore the cave, you will find many flaming arrows and extinguished embers. Shoot the embers to light the way and explore the cave. Along the way, you will collect notes, probably written by Riku himself. The notes tell of a man who has merged with darkness, obsessed with the treasure he has amassed. Outside with Captain Barbossa, inside with Gollum de Lord of the Rings.
How to beat Black Hand Rika
Jin eventually comes face to face with Riku himself, claiming to have been “reborn in darkness”. Outside Gollum and inside Bane, we suppose. Regardless, Riku uses the same moves you’re used to in boss fights. Like most duels, you will use Stone Stance to fight. Stop blue attacks and run away from red ones.
Be careful when blocking swords with Riku. It will follow up with a quick attack that can be parried if you know it’s coming. Also, watch out for the whirlwind attack and dodge backwards to get out of range.
Sarugami Armor Stats
After defeat, Jin will claim Riku’s armor for himself. The description of him reads: “Infused with the power of a terrifying monkey spirit, he compels his owner to accept risk and danger.” The description is a great sample of what the Sarugami armor does.
While wearing the Sarugami armor set, his regular parry is disabled, but his perfect parry becomes a chain of three attacks. The Sarugami armor, in a way, enhances your perfect combinations with the Sky Strike ability. Perfect dodges also damage nearby enemies. You will see a significant increase in your resolve buff and your window for perfect parry/dodge is wider.
Upgrading the Sarugami armor to level four increases resolve gains greatly. It also further extends the parry/perfect dodge window and blinds enemies into perfect dodges instead of damaging them.
So is Sarugami worth it? Yes, but only if you raise it all the way. Also, you have to be a skilled player to take advantage of it. Otherwise, you are doing yourself a disservice. You will see how much you trust normal pairs after they are taken from you. However, upgrading the Sarugami armor and opening that window a bit larger makes it easier to use.
What to combine with Sarugami Armor
As for charms, you’ll want to equip any charm that further increases your perfect parry window, overall defense, and resolve gains. Here are some good ones to use:
- Amaterasu Charm: Killing an enemy restores a moderate amount of health.
- Mashira’s Amulet of Protection: When you spin, your perfect parry and dodge windows are extended for a limited time. Active for six seconds. (This amulet is exclusive to Iki Island and can be upgraded by finding and completing the Monkey Sanctuary.)
- Charm of Broken Barriers: Breaking and defending enemies grants 15% resolve.
- The Charm of Unyielding II – Significantly reduces damage taken while at or below 50% health.
- Hachiman’s Boon: Killing an enemy restores a small amount of health.
Aesthetically, the Petals’ Caress headband and Mashira’s Bite sword set match the green base color of the Sarugami armor. Both items can be found on Iki Island. What will Ghost do if he doesn’t look modern?
