Ghost Rider Cosplay Is the Fan Redesign Marvel’s Darkest Hero Deserves

The stunning new Ghost Rider cosplay is just what fans need to recreate Marvel’s darkest hero. Cosplayer Whitney Wright (follower is W_dubb on Instagram) has created an epic and stunning new look for Ghost Rider, reimagining the Vengeful Spirit’s flames as flowing hair.

W_dubb posted a cosplay photo on Instagram. Combining realistic and digital effects, the photo shows Vengeful Spirit standing in front of a brick wall, holding a flaming necklace; she’s wearing the character’s typical cycling outfit, but the skull is missing a jaw. Perhaps the most interesting part of W_dubb’s cosplay is her long red hair, recreating the hero’s iconic flaming skull. W_dubb said before the cosplay shoot, for the annual Katsucon anime convention, that besides the Punisher, Ghost Rider is one of her favorite characters.

New Ghost Rider with a different look

Over the past 50 years, Marvel has expanded the myth of Ghost Rider, evolving him from an ordinary supernatural character into a top-notch traditional hero, and Ghost Rider’s history can be traced back to Earth’s prehistoric times. While Johnny Blaze may be the Ghost Rider fans are most familiar with, a number of other Vengeful Souls have also made headlines of their own, including Danny Ketch, Robbie Reyes (recently revealed as the “Complete Knight” of the multiverse), and most recently Ghost Rider, who is not only a Spirit of Vengeance but also the Sorcerer Supreme! There’s even Ghost Rider in the Wild West, and the X-Men have their own Ghost Rider: Vox Ignis. Now, W_dubb’s cosplay has introduced fans to a new Ghost Rider who will continue the dark legacy of his predecessor.

there’s always a ghost rider

Johnny Blaze plays Ghost Rider in the Marvel comics.

W_dubb’s cosplay is impressive on many levels. For starters, her outfit is sleek and streamlined, perfect for speeding around on a fiery motorcycle. The outfit is all leather and all black — two hallmarks of Ghost Rider, along with the necessary fire chain. In the end, the fiery hair made the deal, turning what had initially seemed a constant aspect of the character — the fiery skull image — into something new. W_dubb’s Ghost Rider is the perfect complement to Vengeful Spirits’ legacy.

Over the years, Ghost Rider has evolved, from a demon-possessed stunt biker to a Marvel organization. Ghost Rider has inspired generations of creators and cosplayers, each adding to the mythology, and over time he’s become one of the publisher’s most unlikely legacy heroes. Over the years, there have been many different Ghost Riders, all in different shapes, sizes, and with different riding styles, and W_dubb’s interpretation may best suit them. Scary and brutal, the fan-redesigned Ghost Rider is worthy of the Vengeful Spirits.
