This post was shared on October 1st. Since it was published, it has collected more than one million views. The share also has more than 10,000 likes and several comments. Many were surprised when they found a whale carcass on the beach.

Earlier, a dead blue whale was found on the shore of Meghavaram village in Santhabommali mandal of Srikakulam district in Andhra Pradesh. Many have flooded social media with footage of people holding and examining the whale carcass. Authorities determined the dead whale was a Bryde’s whale based on unique physical characteristics and identification marks.

Bryde’s whales, known as bowhead whales, have sleek bodies and slender, pointed fins. They also have three distinct ridges in front of their blowers.

Local fishermen speculated that the whale’s death could have been the result of being caught in shallow waters. The giant sea creature is estimated to weigh up to five tons and is around 25 feet long.
