Police believe the vehicle they were driving lost control on Wannon-Nigretta Falls Road in Bochara, 11 kilometers northwest of Hamilton. The car crashed into a tree, killing two teenagers, a girl and a 30-year-old woman. The sole survivor, a 17-year-old girl, was taken by ambulance to Aldred Hospital, where she remained in a critical condition on Sunday. Those killed in the crash have yet to be officially identified and Victoria Police have not confirmed their ages. Assistant Road Police Commissioner Glenn Weir said the vehicle was traveling at extreme speed when it veered off the road.
Weir police are still working to officially identify those who died at the traumatic scene. Weir said it appears the vehicle may have been lying on the side of the road for hours after it left the nearby Nigretta Falls parking lot shortly after 1 a.m. After 1 a.m., detectives from the Large Collision Investigation Unit left the scene in Bochara shortly after. The wrecked tractor was loaded onto a truck to be transported from the scene. Handwritten messages can be seen inside and outside the car, including driving safely, loving and helping people.
According to reports, Weir said police are hoping the girl at the hospital can provide some answers as to how the crash happened. He also said it was not clear which passengers were the drivers, suggesting some were not wearing seat belts.
