Heidi Lagares-Greenblatt on Survivor 44
Survivors 44 started in March 2023, and one of the contestants we met on the show is Heidi Lagares-Greenblatt. Joining Survivor was her dream, even though she came late to Survivor.
Heidi said Parade.com, “And from the moment I saw an episode, I was hooked. So I ended up watching every season from the beginning. And I’ve wanted to be on this show since I first saw it. I want to represent my people, my family. I want to represent Latinos, Latinos working in STEM and all those people who can have an accent, can sound and look different”.
Unlike many of her contestants, Heidi hasn’t watched many episodes of Survivor. She told how her neighbors chose the winner from the beginning. But when she looked at the first one, she fell in love with it. When she watched the first episode, she said, “How did I not know about this?” After moving to the US in 2003, she started watching from the first season.
As for a winner and a non-winner she identifies with, she said, “I would say the winner would be Sandra” from Puerto Rico. And the non-winner is Angelina. She said: “A lot of people saw her as a villain, but I really like her. I mean, her negotiations changed the way this game is played. We have seen negotiations on rice later in other seasons.”
On what prepared her for the show, Heidi said that moving to the US was the right thing to do. She added: “I could barely speak the language; I mostly had nothing. I have no money; I had no bed. Almost nothing more than a job offer. That’s why I moved. And I fought.”
Heidi added: “I moved to downtown New York and didn’t have a car; I don’t have anything. So at first I had to struggle a bit and rush to get going. And that struggle and the adjustment that I had to make to move to the US from Puerto Rico, I’m very proud of that. It made me who I am. And I think a lot of what I learned at that time can be used in this game.”
Speaking about how people perceive her as Heidi, she said that she is “bubbly” and “loves people”. She decided to keep her composure and eagerly sought an advantage in the game. She added: “The secret behind this will be that we are not actually going to share the secret with everyone. I feel like in the last two seasons, everyone shared every time they found an advantage or an idol, and it bit them.”
As far as the best advice she received before entering the show, Heidi received it from her children and husband. Her sons told her, “if you find an idol, no, please don’t share it with anyone unless they are with you and don’t notice.” Her husband said: “From my husband, it was more along the lines of, ‘Your physical ability will only take you so far. What will take you beyond your abilities will be your mind.’

Heidi Lagares-Greenblatt works as an engineer, inventor, and technologist. She worked for IBM as a VLSI designer and HR and Technical Manager (Special Rotation) while pursuing her Master’s degree. In addition, she was promoted to the position of information center manager and then to the position of new technology introduction program manager as a result of her excellent performance and dedication to her work. She worked at IBM from 2003 to 2017.
The engineer joined United States Steel Corporation in 2017 after resigning from IBM, where she first worked as a materials development manager at the USS Research and Technology Center and then as a product development program manager at the Research Center and USS Technology and Automotive Innovation Leader. Heidi stayed with the company for approximately five years and four months before moving to HP in 2022, where she is now Director of Software Research and Development for Data Science Solutions.
