Here’s why ChatGPT might be ‘at capacity’ for you still

AI-powered ChatGPT has recently frustrated a significant number of potential new users due to its very popularity, which has led to the very common “at capacity” objection many people face.

Unfortunately, you currently have to wait or go back to a time when fewer people are using it. You can also try one of the best ChatGPT alternatives, including Microsoft’s recently announced integration of ChatGPT into Bing.

OpenAI’s rising star chatbot, ChatGPT (launched in November 2022) uses machine learning to generate responses from questions or queries entered by users. People were amazed at how mature and talkative he was, while also raising a number of ethical questions that everyone is talking about.

But recently the biggest problem has been access. In recent weeks, there have been reports of those who wanted to create a new account or access a page on the ChatGPT site and were unable to do so due to traffic congestion.

What the visitors saw was a message saying: “Chat GPT is currently full.” Basically, this meant that the website was in high demand and had reached its capacity of users per session and/or query load. Servers running ChatGPT are very expensive to run, and OpenAI seems to have put restrictions on that use after an incredible explosion of interest.

Interestingly, instead of canned messages, ChatGPT has developed creative ways to convey busy status. So far, people have seen the chatbot communicate with songs, raps, and even pirate speech. While the demolitions were frustrating, at least visitors found the messages amusing.

At the time of writing, I had no problem creating a new account and/or chatting, but if you run into this error, the solution is very simple: just wait. Just click the “Get Notified” link, enter your email address, and you should receive an email when you reach your place in the queue.

Please note that ChatGPT is still a prototype and its growing popularity has overwhelmed the servers. People were reportedly able to use the site after waiting about an hour or less.

Also, ChatGPT recently announced that a premium tier version, called ChatGPT Plus, is in the works. It’s not available yet, but you can now join a waiting list for the service, which will be a paid tier that promises better access and faster responses for $20 a month. This is how OpenAI can monetize the chatbot and give paid subscribers priority access.

ChatGPT ‘at capacity’ workaround

You may have to wait for ChatGPT to become available, but there is a workaround you can try. Using a virtual private network (VPN) can sometimes bypass ChatGPT’s restrictions and allow you to use the service (we’ve got a roundup of the best VPNs if you’re interested in trying it out).

However, it may not work for you. The reason why a VPN might work is because it gives you a new session with ChatGPT and moves your virtual location. With a new session and location, ChatGPT could give you access.

You can also try using a different browser or device, or clearing your browser’s cache. If you’ve been stuck on the “full capacity” page for a while, you may be seeing a cached version of the web page.

Finally, you can move away from ChatGPT altogether. There are several great alternatives to ChatGPT. Microsoft recently integrated AI into Bing search, and you can sign up for the Bing Chat waitlist to get access when it’s available.
