HGTV’s Shane Duffy is a new star build forward. As reported, he replaced Matt Blashaw in the second season of the show.
The HGTV show tweaked things for Season 2 in response to the popularity of Season 1. In collaboration with Lowe’s, designer Taniya Nayak worked with builder Shane to restore the homes of five local heroes across the country. As a newbie to HGTV, Shane had big shoes to fill.
Shane is not new to either the world of carpentry or television. In 2022, he appeared as a builder during the Galentine’s Bash segment on TODAY with Hoda & Jenna, when he and his business partner Sandy Dias gave “top home improvement tips.”
In an interview with realtor.com, Shane admitted that his area of expertise in home renovation is “maximizing space,” and that living in the Big Apple plays a role in why it’s such a crucial skill. “Living in New York, every apartment is a small house, so maximizing space, using horizontal and vertical space, being creative with lighting and using windows is extremely important,” Shane said.
Shane’s unique approach to home improvement has landed him on the pages of Cosmopolitan, In Touch, OK!, New York Daily News, Life & Style, Yahoo! and Estrella, among many others.

Meet John Duffy, father of HGTV’s Shane Duffy
John Duffy is the father of HGTV’s Shane Duffy. He is 65 years old, born in July 1957.
John is one of six children born to Constance “Connie” M. West and Joseph Duffy. However, after her parents separated, Connie married George West.
Connie was a waitress at the Long Branch Saloon for over 15 years and then worked for one of her close friends, Dee, at the Rockport Inn. She was a family caregiver, offering herself to so many members through her illnesses.
Connie passed away at the age of December 30, 2007. She was born in Janesville on June 15, 1933 to John and Valeria (Liebe) Piekarski.
Joe’s siblings are Joe (Lynn) Duffy of St. Paul Parka, MN, Penny (Tim) Elmer of Beloit, Derome West of Boerne, TX, and Derard West of Janesville. His brother Leo Duffy died some time ago. Four of John’s siblings died in infancy.
Getting back to John, he has served as the CEO of Foremost Forensics On Site Drug & Alcohol Testing, LLC since 2005. Prior to his current job, John served for three years as a state drug and alcohol control officer in the United States National Guard. Texas Army.
An Army veteran, John served in the US Army from 1976 to 2003. In addition, he is also a Certified Collector Trainer, an Administrative Assistant to the Medical Examiner, and a Breath Alcohol Technical Instructor.
