A motorhome or campervan holiday is the perfect way to get outside, see the countryside and make new friends at campsites and touring sites across the country. Being the perfect camping neighbor on these sites is simply a matter of common sense. When you are considerate of other people, you will have a better time and everyone will have a more enjoyable stay.
Here’s what to do to make friends and enjoy your RV vacation.
Arrival at the camp
Come when you said you would, paying attention to the check-in time. If you are going to be late, call the camp and let them know. Drive carefully on site as otherwise there will be strict speed limits. There will probably be a lot of adults and children walking or cycling in and around the camp. Try not to keep the engine running longer than necessary when rechecking the terrain.
Staying on the page
Respect the environment and the people around you, taking care not to violate other people’s privacy. One of the biggest problems in campsites comes from unwanted noise. There are often rules asking for quiet after a certain time at night, but generally you should aim for minimal noise during the day as well. If you have kids who love noise or dogs who can’t resist barking, find sites that are family-friendly and have a livelier atmosphere. Be friendly, although this does not mean that you have to invite yourself into someone else’s camper or have a detailed conversation in the toilet. But a friendly smile makes all the difference.
Garbage and campfires
Check with the campsite to see if you can have a campfire or bonfire. Many sites allow this, and make the evenings on the site special and warm you up! You may be able to have a barbecue in a special area on the site if fires are not allowed near tents and vans. Do not leave the fire unattended and be sure to put it out before going to bed. Do not throw ashes or embers into the trash cans.
Make sure you put the waste water in the right place and all the waste from the toilet bowl in the proper place for disposal. It’s a great idea when you go to tidy up your pitch as much as you can, so that there are few signs that you’ve ever camped on it.
Pets and children
Pets and children are welcome in many camps. Keep your pets under control and always on a leash. Children should also be supervised as much as possible – if children run wild, let them do it on playgrounds or on the beach! The camper is ideal for a young family, and there are many ways to enjoy it. Be aware of other people’s noise levels, especially at night.
