How to earn more gold in The Witcher: Monster Slayer

Silver swords and gold coins are a wizard’s best friends. Wizard: Monster Slayer is an augmented reality mobile game where players go out into the real world, kill monsters and complete missions. As players explore, they will purchase new swords, armor, and items to help them on their journey. However, all of these items cost gold—and a lot of it. So how do players earn more gold in Wizard: Monster Slayer?

Completing missions

Wizard: Monster Slayer is much more than traveling around and killing monsters aimlessly. Tasks will have you roaming around your neighborhood and surroundings in true video game style. Quest givers are marked with yellow exclamation marks, and each phase of the active quest is marked with a yellow question mark. Fortunately, quest steps will keep you within a 1000 meter radius of the quest giver, often doubling back on themselves and ending somewhere near where they started.

Wizards are rewarded with experience points and a bag of gold ranging from 50-100 pieces upon completion. While you can quickly exhaust the currently available quests, the XP gained is a workaround to earn more gold through advancement, skill allocation, and exploration.

Daily challenges

You can find your daily challenges just above the store icon after loading Wizard: Monster Slayer. These challenges are combat missions that will reward you with a gold reward upon completion. Tasks include “Kill five monsters vulnerable to powerful attacks” or “Drop three bombs”. Some are easier than others. Luckily, you can restart your daily challenge once to instantly get a new one. However, you’re stuck with that new challenge until you finish it or trash it. After completing or trashing, it will take a few hours before a new challenge opens.

Complete seven daily tasks to unlock a special reward; however, you can only earn one stamp per day. You can see how many stamps you have by looking above the list of daily challenges. The reward for these challenges varies. It’s usually 50 gold; however, we’ve seen it go up to 80 for more difficult tasks.

Nemetons

At level 10 you will unlock the ability to interact with Nemetons Wizard: Monster Slayer. These are the leafless trees you saw while on your Witching adventure. Tap the Nemeton to see what monsters lurk inside. You will have to fight two easy monsters and one medium monster to clear the Nemeton and earn the reward. Access to Nemetons is why early game missions are so important. So clear those first few quests and fight every easy monster you come across to reach level 10.

Nemetons offer huge rewards through XP, gold and materials. Always make sure you have room in your inventory to collect all the treasures inside. Each Nemeton cleared will net you 50 gold and between 500 and 700+ XP. The wide range of XP earned depends on your performance, weapon upgrades, and other bonuses like “+100 XP for first kill.”

You can only collect 50 gold from Nemeton three times a day and you have to wait three hours in real time between each scavenge. However, you can use monster bait to lure more monsters into the Nemeton and go right back inside.

Don’t miss out on Nemeton opportunities, especially when you’re looking for a new silver sword or better armor. Make sure you have the right oils, bombs and potions on hand for all the monsters lurking inside. It’s also important to note that on the prep screen you’ll only see what the most powerful monster – the “boss” if you will – is weak to.

For example, an Insectoid Nemeton might contain two Endrega Workers (easy) and an Endrega Drone (medium). While all three monsters are weak to fire and steel, the workers are weak to quick attacks, while the drone is weak to strong. It’s safe to assume that larger monsters are weak to strong attacks, but if you’re not sure, you can pay attention to your critical hit meter. If it’s charging, make a real attack.

Spending real money

Of course, like any other game, players have the option to spend real money on in-game items. When it comes to The Witcher: Monster Slayer, the only thing that is “useful” to buy (without being pay-to-win/play) is the Witcher Starting Pack. The starter pack gives you a silver sword, several alchemy stations, a set of ingredients and items.

When it comes to buying weapons, armor, and pouch upgrades, you’ll spend anywhere from 1600 gold for the cheapest steel sword to 12,000 for the most expensive silver sword. Armor sets become equally expensive, the cheapest costing 3400.

To buy gold Wizard: Monster Slayerhead to the store and scroll to the bottom of the page Main tab. You can spend:

  • $0.99 for 200 gold
  • $4.99 for 1300 gold
  • $9.99 for 3500 gold
  • $19.99 for 8500 gold
  • $49.99 for 26,000 gold
  • $99.99 for 70,000 gold

What you should spend your gold on in The Witcher: Monster Slayer

So you’ve accumulated a heavy bag of gold. What to spend it on? You might want to get yourself a shiny new sword or a nice suit of armor, for starters. Let’s look at the different options and decide which one is the best.

The best swords to buy

There are six steel swords and seven silver swords Wizard: Monster Slayer. Between silver and steel, most of these weapons offer the same enhancements with the exception of the most expensive and the Melltith, a silver sword with a 15% chance to deal fire damage.

For starters, there’s no point in buying the most expensive silver sword, A’Baeth, for 12,000. This sword will increase the XP gained from killing monsters by 25%. That being said, by the time you hit 12,000 (unless you’ve spent real money on it), progression is no longer a major concern. You’ve probably already unlocked Nemetons between the huge number of challenges and missions you’d have to complete to earn that much gold.

Instead, opt for the most expensive steel sword, Caerme, for 6400. Caerme increases your critical damage by 50%. Paired with the right oils and potions, Caerme can deal massive amounts of damage to tougher enemies. Of course, this depends on whether you’re good at getting perfect critical hits.

Alternatively, you can opt for Bear Steel (1600) or Bear Silver (1800) for 15% extra damage from strong attacks. Why? Because most of the more difficult enemies in Wizard: Monster Slayer are weak to strong attacks. Save some more gold and come back for quick attack mates.

The best armor to buy

As for armor, again, there’s no need to buy the most expensive set of armor (unless you’ve spent real money). Kaer Morhen Armor also gives a 25% XP boost, just like the sword. Those who start at level 1 and have lost $50 on the game will benefit from purchasing the most expensive items for a combined 50% XP boost. Everyone else should stay away.

On the cheap side (3400), Ursine Armor is the best. After taking damage, you will only lose 20% of your critical hit meter. It usually resets to zero, so keeping most of your progress is huge in close combat.

For 6400 gold you can choose between Griffin armor or Manticore armor. Griffin will deal 10% damage back to the enemy after every parry (not just a perfect parry). Manticore automatically applies the White Seagull potion before each fight, increasing the effectiveness of your other potions by 100%. For example, if you drank a Swift potion for 50% bonus HP, you would effectively double your HP with Manticore Armor.

In addition to weapons and armor, you can also spend gold on items, scrolls, crafting stations, and pouches. Don’t waste gold on anything you can make yourself or get in a bundle. Instead, save up to buy additional crafting stations and bags to increase your inventory. Furthermore, don’t waste your money on Monster Bait. Here’s why.

Monster Bait costs 200 gold. Earn only 50 gold each time you clear a Nemeton. So you would have to clear four Nemetons to get your money back. Is it worth the XP and items? No, we don’t think so.
