Sharing games on Nintendo Switch basically boils down to signing out of your account on one console and signing in to your account on the other. All you need is a user account, an Internet connection, and the digital game you want to share. That sounds simple enough, but there are a few more things to know before you get started. However, there are a few things you’ll need to do with your Switch before you get started.
What you need to know before you start
First, game sharing only works on digital games. If you have a physical game, you’ll need to pass it on to a friend the old-fashioned way. More importantly, only one player can access the game at any given time. The primary console, probably your Nintendo Switch, has access to all the games on that Switch online and offline. The secondary console, which you are sharing with, can only access the games when connected to the Internet.
How to share games
Basically, you just need to log in to the other Switch (there are a few more steps which we outline below). This will cause you to share your Nintendo Account username and password. This includes all the games registered to your account, of course, but also any credit card information and rewards you have on file. Before you begin, make sure you feel comfortable sharing that information with a friend.
Step 1 – Purchase the game with your Nintendo Account. The first step seems obvious, but it’s imperative that you purchase the Switch game you want to share on your own Nintendo Account. In other words, the account you normally log into on your own Switch system.

Step 2: Switch to electronic store as usual, buy the game and then fully download it to the system.
Step 3: Deregister your first Switch as your primary console. Gonna electronic store again and tap your profile photo in the top right corner.
Step 4 – Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and you will see the option highlighted main console. Disable this. As long as you’re signed in to your Nintendo Account on this console and have an internet connection, you’ll still be able to access your games.

Step 5: Make the second Switch your new primary console.
Step 6: On the second Nintendo Switch you’ll be sharing games with, sign in with the same Nintendo Account you used on the first system. Since you already deregistered the first Switch, it will automatically switch the second Switch to your primary console.
Step 7: Fully download the game you want to play.
How to play online at the same time
Since this console is now your primary console, you can access the games you have purchased. However, if you want to play online at the same time as the first Switch, you need to sign in to a different Nintendo Account on the new main system. This should be the account you are trying to share games with. If both of you are online at the same time with the same account, the game will pause on the first Switch.
