How to get Gotterdammerung in Final Fantasy 16

Finding new weapons and upgrading existing ones is an almost universal mechanic in all JRPGs. While final fantasy 16 it’s lighter on those mechanics and allows you to control just one character instead of an entire party, there are still plenty of weapons to equip for better stats. Most of the weapons you unlock as you progress are simply better than the ones you had before, but there is one that stands out from the rest as the best in the game… at least until New Game +. Gotterdammerung is as hard to understand as it is to say, which means you’ll need some guidance. Here’s how to unlock the most powerful sword in the world. final fantasy 16.

How to get to Gotterdammerung

If you want to get your hands on a Gotterdammerung, you’ll have to put in some effort. Once you get your hands on it and feel its power, completing final quests like Chronolith Trials will be well worth the effort.

Step 1: Get the Ragnarok Sword.

This will be the basic sword that you will upgrade to Gotterdammerung. Achieving this is not an easy task either. To get it you must complete a series of four side missions: Blacksmith’s Blues I – IV.

This is the only way to get this sword, so if you made a mistake and sold it, you won’t be able to get the Gotterdammerung.

Step 2: Your first resource to acquire is the Primitive Battle Horn. This will be a drop from the A rank reward that you need to take from the Hunting Board. The monster you go to is called Gobermouch, it is found in Waloed. You will find the beast south of The Maudlin Mason. Kill him and claim your reward from Gil, Renow, and the Primitive War Horn.

Step 3: Next is the main product of the series: Orichalcum. You will need a total of three for Gotterdammerung, and you drop Notorious Marks. The ones to look for especially are “The Breaker of Worlds”, “The Tricephalic Terror” and “The Masterless Marauder”.

There are also two additional side quests that give you Orichalcum. These are the “Duty Undying II” and “Under New Management II” missions, so you have some leeway to get all three required.

Step 4: Finally, we need to grab two pieces of Darksteel. Once again, Notorious Marks will be your source for this material.

Look for the quest for “Usher to the Underworld,” “The Grim Reaper,” or “Prince of Death.” All three are A-rated rewards, which will be challenging, but not the worst. You can find them on the Gilded Path to Kretov, Cape Orsiere, and Royal Meadows in Sanbreque. Note that some of these hunts, like the ones for Orichalcum, may not appear until you reach certain points in the main story or complete certain side quests. As long as you’ve reached at least the “Return to Origins” main quest, there shouldn’t be any obstacles outside of the side quests.

Step 5 – Travel to the Blacksmith in your base to create the mighty Gotterdammerung!

The Gotterdammerung has the best stats of any sword in the base game. Deals 375 damage and 375 stun.
