How to get the motorcycle in BOTW

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild it introduced many systems and mechanics never before seen in the decades-long franchise. What really made this game a hit with fans and critics alike was how open the world of Hyrule was. Every inch begged to be explored, and more importantly, there were constant rewards for exploration.

The game’s second DLC, called The Champions’ Ballad, included new dungeons, quests with memories and settings, armor, and…a motorcycle? Outside of Mario Kart, seeing Link riding something other than a horse (or some other animal) would be considered outrageous, but Nintendo lets you burn rubber in breath of the wild with Master Cycle Zero. If you want to upgrade your normal horse to a steel one, we will show you how to launch a motorcycle BOTH.

How to Unlock Master Cycle Zero

The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild Motorcycle

Like anything worth getting into BOTH, you have to win this motor vehicle destroyer by completing the entire Champion Ballad DLC quest, which basically means beating all the main content of the game. You can skip any new side content, but all main quests must be completed. Oh, and while you don’t have to beat the base game, you’ll also have to beat all four Devine Beasts and their Blight Ganon bosses.

You begin the Champion Ballad quest by returning to where it all began, the Shrine of Resurrection on the Great Plateau. After trying out a new weapon, the One-Hit Obliterator, you get four new locations to tackle in any order. They each have three trials and three shrines associated with them, meaning you need to complete a total of 12 before you can take on the final trial and boss.

Song of the former champion Miph

BOTW Mipha's song

The first challenge you will face when you reach Mipha’s monument is to solve a puzzle. Between the images of each stone pillar and the song that Kass sings to you, you will have to figure out what to do in three different places. The clue to “find what the path of light shows” is located on the east coast of the capital city of Zora. When you reach the shore, you will meet the Muse of the Dawn who tells you: “As the morning sun barely rises, follow the path of light to the trial.” At this point, you’ll have to time out until morning dawn, and then keep your eyes on the water. The rising sun will reveal a blue ring in the water that you must swim through to find the Kea Dafunia sanctuary.

This sanctuary consists of melting and moving blocks of ice to activate pressure plates and climb to the end. It is not particularly demanding and it is done quickly.

The next location is on a mountain north of Zora’s property called Upland Zorana. All you have to do here is defeat all the ancient enemies, of which there are three Guardian Skywatchers and one Guardian Turret. That may seem simple enough, but these enemies are not pushovers, so make sure you are well equipped with powerful weapons and arrows. After everyone has been shot down, the Sato Koda Shrine will appear. This is a ball puzzle that is fairly easy if you use the post to lock the tilting platforms in place instead of trying to just use the ice pillars.

The final challenge for this song is located on the east side of Zora’s estate. This challenge is just about getting through all the blue rings, so make sure you have Zora’s armor on hand so you can swim in some waterfalls on the course. The sanctuary will be waiting for you at the end.

Mah Eliya Shrine is another transversal shrine that includes metal cages and cubes. Smart use of ice and downtime is all it takes to get to the top.

The final step is a rematch against Waterblight Ganon. You’ve faced this boss before, so you know what to expect here. Kill him with a few well-placed arrows and clever use of Urbosa’s Fury.

The song of the EX champion of Revali

Once you get to the Song of Revali on the east side of Mount Cuho for more clues and another song, things start off by simply asking you to shoot Dinraal’s horn to open the first shrine. The dragon won’t appear until morning in Tarangar Canyon, so wait until then, then jump, slide, and spin the glowing horn with an arrow. The Shira Gomar Shrine is just as simple. Just use your bombs and wind turbines to break the walls and reach the end.

To start the next path, head to the Goma Asaagh shrine at the top of Strand, where you’ll find a few more glowing blue rings. Grab your best snowboarding shield and jump down the hill, hitting all the rings to blow up your next shrine. This is another orienteering puzzle sanctuary where you just have to guide the ball from one end of the track to the other using the dice.

The last test is northwest of the town of Rito. Here is a training ground where four targets float in the distance. Jump off the edge and let the wind carry you so you can draw and capture them all in one fell swoop. As always, the next shrine will appear and will once again put your shooting and navigation skills to the test.

Take on another Windblight Ganon and you’ll be ready to move on to the next set of paths.

Daruk’s song from the former champion

Daruk’s Song begins southwest of Goron City, downstream of the Golow River. Check the pillars and Kass for clues, then teleport to the Shora Hah Shrine. You’ll need to take down the Igneo Talus here, which basically requires you to have Firebreaker armor for enough fire resistance. Hover over his head and howl or take ice arrows out of him if you have them. When you take it down, the Sanctuary will open. This is another dead-simple shrine. Just shoot targets that get more difficult as you progress. You have infinite arrows so take your time.

His next ring-based trial begins on the Divine Beast Vah Rudania. Look over the edge to see the first ring. Eliminate them all, open the next sanctuary and assemble the blocks avoiding the dangers to reach the end. Nothing too fussy here.

The final trial is near the Darb Pond, and all you have to do is place a block on the glowing circle in the lava and jump on it. Sanctuary is again all about ducking, blocking, and dodging the flames as you go.

Fireblight Ganon awaits you as the final challenge.

The song of the former champion Urbos

BOTW Song of Urbosa

The last of the three Cantos de Campeones is Urbosina in the Gerudo region. At this point you know the process, so let’s get straight to the point.

Your first trial will take you to Gerudo City to find Teake, who will be by the palace gate. You will be sent to a location south of the East Barrens to perform Molduking, which is easiest to do at night to avoid the health problem of exposure to the hot desert sun. Bombs and stasis are your best friends during this fight, which isn’t too difficult. The sanctuary you open is a simple electric puzzle. Just place the metal blocks in the right places to complete the circuits and move on.

Back in Gerudo City, we have, you guessed it, another set of rings to go through. This time you will have to catch the sand seal and use it to clear all the doors and open the next shrine. This is just another electric puzzle that is a bit longer but not more challenging than any of the others.

The final test involves an orb that you must collect from the hideout where you fought Master Khoga during the main quest line of the base game. Sneak back to the treasure room, which will now have an orb in it. Take it out and drop it into the huge hole (which you no doubt noticed going in) to reveal the final shrine. To complete the Shrine, you just need to place the corresponding colored orb in the corresponding hole. The order is pink for the first, green for the second, yellow for the third, and blue for the fourth.

Make quick work of Thunderblight Ganon and you’ll be almost ready to ride your new steel steed.

Divine Trial Dungeon

Before you start this final test, make sure you are well equipped and full of elixir. In all previous boss fights, you started with gear ready, but this one lets you go in with whatever you’re carrying, so bring out the big guns.

You will be directed back to the Shrine of the Resurrection, where new areas have opened up. There are four mini-puzzles that you have to solve and activate switches: one with lava, one with spinning, one with fans, and one with water. Take your time cleaning them up and making sure you’re healed up and ready before opening the back door and talking to the monk inside.

Monk Maz Koshia is a boss who could give Ganon a run for his money. During the first phase, he will be very aggressive, so be ready to dodge and counter when he stays open. He plays defense during this phase, but always uses the opening to cry it out.

His next phase takes a page out of Ganon’s Thunderblight playbook. A perfectly timed backflip (with a strong enough weapon, that is) will push you right into the next phase.

For Maz’s next trick, he clones himself. They can hurt you, but the clone can only take one hit before disappearing. This is the time to unleash Urbosin Fury for an AOE that will reveal the true monk so you can focus your attacks.

Maz is now a giant who throws big spiked balls at you that you want to catch with magnesium and hold against him. His next move is to electrify orbs, which will only damage him if you’re fast enough to get them close to him.

In order to finish the fight, you will have to prove your mastery in the ability to parry and counter the laser eye attack. Watch out for the flash to kill time and give you a taste of your own medicine. After he falls down, clamor for him with everything you’ve got to finally complete this quest.

How Master Cycle Zero works

BOTW Zero Main Cycle

After defeating the final boss and completing the quest, you will be rewarded with a new rune that will allow you to summon none other than Master Cycle Zero. Once summoned, you ride it like any other horse. It’s not as fast as a five-star horse’s speed, but it’s much easier to control, prevents fall damage, and allows you to do some cool jumps. However, you cannot summon it everywhere. Cycling is prohibited in shrines, the Gerudo desert, and areas in Eldin.

The only real drawback to your new favorite way to drive around Hyrule in style is fuel. Fortunately, you won’t have to pay real-world gas prices to fill up on this fuel; actually, it can work with anything. Just stand near the back and place materials in the fuel tank, and you’re ready to go. Depending on what you put in, the bike will return different amounts of fuel. For whatever reason, some of the more common items produce the highest percentage of fuel, such as apples, flint, and wood. It goes without saying, but stick with these when you fill your tank instead of any of their rares. Now hit the road!
