You tamed the horse Minecraft, but the beast still has a mind of its own — it absolutely will not follow your lead. To take control of your horses, you need a saddle. If you’re hoping to learn how to make a saddle using a crafting table, we’ve got bad news: you just can’t to make saddle.
For some reason, developer Mojang doesn’t make the saddle a craftable item. Instead, you have to acquire it through various means, including trading, exploring, and fishing. If you’re brave, you can even take a Ravager just to ride your horse.
Here you will find instructions on where to find the saddle and who will replace it.
Replacement for the saddle

You can get a saddle from the farmer Kožar. If you don’t see any in the surrounding villages, you can always place a cauldron and create a villager (if possible). However, you’ll need to level up the villager as he won’t offer a saddle until he reaches level 3. This is done by trading emeralds, hides, rabbit skins, flints, and anything else the villager wants.

Unfortunately, as shown above, you cannot continuously level up a villager in one visit. He will eventually run out of trade items and only refreshes his supply twice a day if he has access to the cauldron.
Once you get the Tanner to level 5 (Master), your chance of getting a saddle jumps to 50%.
Take the saddles from the chests
If you don’t want to level up Leatherworker, your next best bet is to head out and find a saddle packed in a chest. Lucky for you, there are many places to look. Unfortunately, you are not guaranteed a saddle every time you open a chest. Below are the locations, how to find those locations and your percentage chances of finding a saddle.
Abandoned mine shafts (percentage unknown)

Underground you can find cobweb covered mining shafts (bring scissors). You’ll also find them on the surface in the Badlands biomes. They are usually inhabited by giant spiders, skeletons and other baddies.
Desert temples (23.5%)

Here we discovered a hole in the center of the floor of this temple leading to a chamber below. There we found four chests with rotten meat, horse armor, ropes and more.
dungeons (28.3%)

You can find dungeons in caves. They are based on mossy stone bricks and cobblestones. In the middle, you’ll usually see a fire pit that spawns monsters, which in turn guard chest(s).
near the city (13.3%)

To get to the End City, you’ll need to travel to the End and defeat the End Dragon. After he is defeated, you must use the Ender Pearl to go through a small portal and reach the End City. For this guide, End City also included a searchable End Ship that produced a saddle along with other things.
Temples in the jungle (12.9%)

Unlike desert temples, jungle temples are much harder to find with all the trees and vines. They are built of cobblestones, cobblestones covered with moss and vines. Go inside, go down the stairs and disable all the traps before trying to retrieve the temple’s treasure.
Nether Fortress (35.3%)

To enter the Nether, you need to build a Nether Portal using Obsidian Blocks along with Flint and Steel. Once you get through, you’ll have a hard time finding the Nether Fortress in the dark red underworld. Just remember that every block of travel in the Nether means eight blocks in the Overworld.
Strongholds (2.5%)

Like temples in the jungle, strongholds are hard to find. However, these areas are not obscured by vegetation. Instead, they are buried deep underground with no entrance or exit. In addition to chests, strongholds have libraries, prisons, and an end portal that takes you to the Ender Dragon battle and the game’s final credits.
Villages (various)

You can get saddles from chests owned by blacksmiths and tanners in any village. You can also get saddles from chests in Savannah houses located in Savannah biomes. The landscape has greenish-brown grass and leaves while the roofs are orange, as shown above. Here are the odds for these three special chests:
- Blacksmith chests – 16.2%
- Savanna House Chests – 11.3%
- Tanning chests – 17.3%
Chest fish
This is the least likely method to create a saddle, with a 0.8% chance. However, if you have never fished in Minecraftnow is a good time to study.
Step 1: Open the crafting table and connect three sticks with two pieces of thread, as shown below. Don’t have these ingredients? Here’s how to make them:
- 2 wooden blocks = 4 sticks
- 1 cobweb = 9 wires (wires are also dropped by spiders)

Step 2: Equip your fishing rod, approach the water and cast your line. You can roll by doing the following:

- Mobile – tap Fish button

Step 3: A trail of bubbles crosses the water towards your lure. When it falls under water, press or tap the appropriate button.
Kill the Desolation

You can usually find Ravagers near villages as they attack villagers. With Marauders on their backs, they will appear in groups of five. Otherwise, Ravagers without horsemen spawn in groups of three to seven. You’ll also find them near Pillager Outposts. They are extremely hostile, so bring iron golems, use ranged weapons, or wield a diamond sword and armor.
Turn on the cheats!

If you don’t want to go to the trouble of getting a saddle, you can always create a world using Creative Mode. All Minecraft has to offer is pushed into your inventory. No questions.
But if you’ve already created a world, you can still activate a “cheat” mode that allows you to enter commands. Here’s how for most platforms:
- Java Edition – Open to LAN > Allow Cheats: On > Start LAN World (you will need to do this every time you load a world)
- Windows 10 / Mobile – Settings > Game > Activate Passcodes
- Console – Settings > Cheats > Activate Codes
To enter the code, do the following:
- PC – Press input or T key
- Console – Press right on the D-Pad
- Mobile – tap conversation button
For saddle codes you can enter the following:
- /give player name saddle 1
- /call EntityHorse ~ ~ ~ {Tame:1,SaddleItem:{id:329,Count:1}}

You didn’t go through all this trouble just to talk. He bangs that saddle on the horse and dizziness!
Step 1: Make sure you are empty-handed and do the following to tame the horse:
