How to remove someone from Slack

When people leave your organization, you will likely need to remove their access to various company applications. You can deactivate their intranet login, delete their work email address, and remove them from your Slack workspace.

Not every Slack member has the ability to deactivate a user. Let’s take a look at how to remove someone from Slack and who is the best for it.

Who can remove a Slack member

Slack workspace owners and administrators have the option to deactivate a member account. There are three types of owners and administrators who can remove Slack members.

Primary workspace owner: This is usually the person who creates the Slack workspace and has all privileges. They can deactivate members and guests, workspace owners, and workspace administrators.

Workspace owner: The primary owner can designate a workspace owner who has the ability to do everything as the primary owner except delete the workspace or transfer ownership of it. They can deactivate members, guests and workspace administrators.

Workspace Administrator: The workspace owner can appoint a workspace administrator to help manage the workspace and its members. I can deactivate only members and guests.

If you’re not sure what your current role is in your Slack workspace, check with the primary owner or visit the roles page in the Slack Center for help.
