How to reset and deregister an Echo Show

Want to donate or sell your Amazon Echo Show? Before the transaction, make sure you have reset the device to factory settings and deregistered it. A factory reset ensures that all of your Amazon account settings are erased from the device, so the new recipient of your Show can enter their own Amazon credentials and set up the smart display for themselves. Fortunately, the process of resetting your Showa 5 or Showa 8 is quite simple, and there are several ways to go about the task. Let’s go through each method.

To get started, you can say, “Alexa, go to settings,” or swipe down from the top of the home screen. Touch settings from the list of options, then tap Device options. If this is a second-generation Echo Show, select Factory reset, but Keep smart home device connections. For the first generation Echo Show, tap Factory reset. Either option will erase all personal data from the device and deregister the Echo Show from your Amazon account.

Reset using the Echo Show button

You can also reset your Show to factory settings by pressing and holding both buttons Turn off the sound and Turn down the sound buttons at the same time. After about 15 seconds, you should see the Amazon boot logo. This confirms that your Show has completed the reset process. You can confirm that the device has been deleted from your account by checking in the Alexa app.

Open the app, tap Devices (located at the bottom of the home screen), then tap Echo & Alexa. You’ll see a list of all Amazon devices in your home and the groups assigned to them. Your Echo Show device should be missing from this list.

Reset using the Alexa app

If you’d rather reset your Echo Show using the Alexa app, you can do that too. Launch the app, tap Devicesthen tap Echo & Alexa. Find your Echo Show and select it from the list of devices. Then scroll down to Registered tab and tap Sign Out.
