One thing that thankfully hasn’t changed is the multiplayer. Even with the new additions, Journey’s End is a multiplayer game at its core, and the best way to play with friends is through a dedicated server. Here’s how to set up a dedicated one Terrarium server, even if you know nothing about networking.

Server setup
Before diving in, here are a few notes. We’ll show you how to set up a dedicated one Terrarium server without a configuration file. Terraria it has a server setup wizard, which makes the process extremely simple. Additionally, if you want others to access your server from external networks, you’ll need to set a static IP address for your router and forward a few ports. This varies greatly from router to router, but we have some helpful resources at the end of this section.
Step 1: First, you’ll want to navigate to your Terraria installation folder. If you are running the game through Steam, the default installation location should be C:Program Files (x86)SteamsteamappscommonTerraria. Once there, open it TerrariaServer.exe to launch the server configuration window and display a list of all available worlds. You can find the same executable file in C:GOG GalaxyGamesTerraria if you purchased the game through GOG.
Tip: Create a shortcut to TerrariaServer.exe on your desktop for easy access.
Step 2: Each world is stored locally on your computer’s hard drive. If you haven’t created a world yet or want to start a new one, type “n” in the command line and press input to create it. You will then be prompted to set the size of the world (1 = small, 2 = medium and 3 = large) and give it a name. The world will be generated after completing the steps above, and once you’ve done that, you’ll be able to select it as your server’s dedicated world.
Step 3: To select a world for the server, type the appropriate number in the The chosen world field. After that you can make the following configurations:

Set the maximum number of players. The default value is eight, but you can specify another number as the server limit.

Set the connection. Unless you are running multiple servers and need to set a different port, you can just press Enter to use the default port, which is 7777.

Enable connection forwarding. Type “y” to enable port forwarding or “n” if you don’t want to use it.

Set a password. If you want to set a password for your server, type it in the field to the right of Password, then press Enter. If you do this without typing anything, it will mean there is no password for the server.
Step 4: After this, the world will be set up and playable for all who connect to the server. If you want to change the settings for the world, you can do so from the server console window. Changes can also be made on the fly, even while playing. This allows you to implement changes in your Terrarium the world in real time. You can make the following configurations on your server:

Step 5: If you plan to play with others who want to not connected to the same LAN/router as the main computer, you will need a static IP address and port forwarding for yours Terraria server so others can access it. Connecting to the server
Once you have your server up and running, the next obvious step is to connect to it.
Step 1: Run Terraria as you normally would.
Step 2: Choose Multiplayer > Join by IP.
Step 3: Select the character you want to use.
Step 4: Type either “localhost” or “127.0.0.1” when prompted for an IP address.
How to connect to the server from a different computer than the one it is on

Step 4: When prompted for an IP address, enter the global IP address of the router to which the PC server is connected.
How to connect to the server if players will play on the same local connection
Step 1: Find your computer’s IPv4 address.
Note: This is a relatively simple process, so don’t panic if you don’t understand how to do it. To do this, all you have to do is pull down the search bar on the Windows Start menu and type the letters “cmd”.
Step 2: Once you have done that, launch a command prompt. Once the command prompt opens, type “ipconfig” in the window and click Enter. You will see your IPv4 address appear under the Ethernet adapter’s local area connection or the wireless network connection of the wireless LAN adapter 2.
Step 3: Be sure to note down the IPv4 address for your computer by writing it down somewhere and then opening it Terrarium as you normally would.
Step 4: Choose More playersthen click Join by IP.
Step 5: Select the character you want to play with.
Step 6: After the system prompts you to enter your IP address, enter the IPv4 address you wrote down in Step 2.
Normally, players should be able to connect to the server at the same time, regardless of whether they are using the Internet or LAN. If that doesn’t work, double-check that you’ve followed all of the previous instructions. Make sure you have configured the server and network correctly. Once everything is set up, you can enjoy playing your games on a brand new server.
Implementation of connection with special Terrarium server can be a bit intimidating for some people. This is usually the case if you have no experience working with network configurations. Fortunately, the game is beginner-friendly. So even those without proper experience should have a smooth setup experience. Even if you’re not the main networker on your team, it’s still useful to get some background knowledge. This will come in handy if you encounter connectivity issues.
