While there are various ways to minimize these alerts, from turning them off outright to snoozing them, one of the smartest and most useful options is to use a geofence to mute alerts while you’re close to home. This is a feature Ring introduced in early 2021, so it’s still fairly new, and some users may not even realize it’s an option. Here’s how to do it.
What is geofencing?
Before we get too far, some Ring users may be wondering what exactly the geofencing setting can do and why you would want to enable it.
A geofence is an invisible boundary or marker that you can create for your home. It uses your phone’s location settings and advanced mapping to recognize when you enter or leave a certain area.

There are numerous applications of this technology on many Ring devices. For example, once a geofence is enabled, some alerts may change based on your smartphone’s location relative to the geofence boundary and whether you’re coming or going.
Let’s dig a little deeper: If you enable Auto-Snooze for your Ring Video Doorbell during the geofencing process, you won’t receive motion alerts as you approach the front door. Or, if you forget to change your Ring Alarm Mode to Away when you leave the house, you can get geofencing activation/deactivation reminders that will ping you and prompt you to turn on the alarm before you go too far.

Ring’s geofencing technology works with the Ring app on nearly all smartphones and on Ring Video Doorbells, security cameras and the Ring Alarm. So no matter what your Ring security configuration looks like, you’ll be able to automate your devices and get quick reminders that make life a little easier.
How to find Ring geofence settings
There are a few different ways to access your Ring app geofencing settings. The first is to look for a small pop-up window in the Ring app dashboard. Tap on it and it will immediately take you to a page that will allow you to turn on the feature.
Another way is to tap the three parallel lines on the menu icon in the upper left corner of the Ring app, then click settingsthen search under location information Geofence.
What can I adjust using the Ring geofence settings?
Within the geofence menu, you’ll be able to choose how wide the geofence circle around your home will be and exactly which of your Ring devices should be snoozed when you approach or leave. You can also set the app to remind you to turn the Ring alarm system off or on.

The other great and smart thing about this feature is that the Ring will still record every activity that happens; either it’s you coming, or someone sneaks out of the house before you get there. Snapshots stay put, all that happens is you don’t get an unnecessary popup or alert.
