How to take a screenshot on the Samsung Galaxy S23

Samsung’s latest series of flagship phones is here with the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus, and Galaxy S23 Ultra. These are great Android phones that have a powerful processor with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy, reliable cameras, reliable battery life, and more. But if you are new to Android or just Samsung Galaxy S series, you might have questions about how to take a screenshot. Don’t worry, we can help you with that!

In case you haven’t noticed, screenshots are a great way to capture what you see on your device’s screen and send or share it with others, such as via social media. It’s also a great way to help others figure things out (like this how-to guide). Here’s how to take a screenshot on your Galaxy S23.

Galaxy S23 screenshot: volume and power buttons

This is the easiest way to take a screenshot and the most basic method. With this option you will only record everything that is on the screen at that moment. If you plan to use this method to take multiple screenshots in quick succession, you may want to wait until the screenshot preview thumbnail in the bottom left corner first disappears. This takes about 3-4 seconds.

Step 1: Place your fingers on the Volume Down and Power buttons at the same time.

Step 2: Press the buttons simultaneously.

Galaxy S23 screenshot: swipe to capture

Unlike Apple’s iOS, there are several ways to take a screenshot. With the Galaxy S23, one of those other methods is to use the palm swipe gesture. This is an advanced feature, but it should be enabled by default. You can also manually turn it on or off via the Settings app. When enabled, simply swipe the screen with the edge of your hand to take a screenshot.

Step 1: Open settings application

Step 2: choose advanced settings.

Galaxy S23 Screenshot – Scrolling Screenshot

Sometimes you’ll want to record something that doesn’t fully fit on the screen at once, like a very long and detailed Facebook post. While you can take multiple screenshots and send a bunch of images to someone or stitch them together yourself, there is another method that can save you a lot of time.

On the Galaxy S23, you have the option to take a scrolling screenshot, which is basically a longer screenshot that captures the screen as you scroll down. The option to take a sliding screenshot appears on the toolbar button that appears after taking a regular screenshot, so you’ll need to use one of the two methods above to access this option.

Step 1 Take a screenshot using one of the methods above.

Step 2: choose Screenshot Offset in the screenshot toolbar that appears next to the screenshot thumbnail. It has two arrows pointing down inside a square.

Step 3 – Continue selecting the button to move the screenshot as needed until you’ve captured everything you need.

Galaxy S23 screenshot: The smart choice

Sometimes it is the opposite and you only need a small part of the actual screenshot. Maybe you just want to highlight a comment in a Facebook thread or just a paragraph in an article you found on the web. For these situations, you want to use the smart selection tool instead of scrolling the screenshot. Accessing this is the same as scrolling through a screenshot: you can only access this toolbar button after you’ve taken a screenshot using one of the first two methods mentioned in this guide.

Step 1 Take a screenshot using one of the methods above.

Step 2: choose smart choice in the screenshot toolbar that appears next to the screenshot thumbnail. It has a crop icon with a pencil at the top.

Step 3: Drag corner handles to adjust the selection. If there are images on the screenshot, you can tap to enlarge that image and crop everything else.

Step 5: When you’re done, select Share either Save toolbar buttons.

Galaxy S23 screenshot: Use the S Pen on the S23 Ultra

If you have a Galaxy S23 Ultra, you have access to a fifth method of taking screenshots thanks to the S Pen that comes with it. To do this, all you have to do is take the S Pen out of the S23 Ultra’s compartment. Once this is done, the shortcut buttons for screenshots are displayed on the screen.

Step 1 – Get yours out with a pencil on the S23 Ultra from the compartment.

Step 2: A pop-up menu appears on the screen with all the things you can do with the S Pen; there are two screenshot options: smart choice and screen writing.

Step 3 – With Smart Select, follow the instructions above, using your S Pen instead of your finger to make your adjustments.

Step 4 – With screen writing, follow step 4 in Smart section selection above, using the S Pen instead of your finger to draw and annotate on a screenshot.

Using smart select and screen writing options on the S23 Ultra with the S Pen

As you can see, it’s very easy to take a screenshot on the Galaxy S23 series, including the S23 Plus and S23 Ultra. And once you’ve taken a screenshot, you have even more options by taking a longer scrolling screenshot that can display more information in an image, or by manually selecting to highlight something important. You can also mark the screenshot.

Those with the S23 Ultra have an S Pen which has a number of options that appear once you take the S Pen out of the case, including screenshots. However, the onscreen typing and smart selection features can be used with your finger on the regular S23 and S23 Plus, as they don’t have S Pen support.
