Although you wouldn’t think so from the start, Grounded it uses two levels of tools, and bringing the right tools for the job can make a huge difference in your survival game. Swinging through thick weeds with a level one axe, for example, won’t do much. And harvesting thick weeds with the same tool? Forget it.
The tools you make at the start won’t get you through, and taking down some of the biggest creatures in the game requires weapons and armor made from materials obtained from upgraded tools. The path isn’t always clear, but here’s how you can upgrade your tools Grounded and unlock the second level (or second level) of Ax and Hammer.

To explain things quickly, the first level tools are the ones you can make beige desk help. You can splash them on the road together with the materials that are on the ground. The Gravel Ax and Gravel Hammer are currently the two main tier one tools.
Level 2 tools, on the other hand, can only be crafted on the workbench. You don’t actually upgrade Tier 1 tools, per se — you just unlock the ability to craft Tier 1 tools instead of them later in the game.
The first level tools come from the Pebblet family, while the second level tools belong to the Insect family. The Insect Ax can harvest materials that the Pebblet Ax cannot, just as the Pebblet Hammer cannot chip away at the harder materials needed to craft some of the stronger equipment in the game. That’s the job of the Insect Hammer.
Insect Ax: How to cast a Tier 2 Ax Grounded

- Recipe: One ladybug head, three Bombardier parts, four pieces of spider silk.
The bug ax is the first tier two tool you’ll want to make. His ability to gather berry skin from berries unlocks an upgrade path to additional Tier 2 tools and especially powerful weapons and armor.
To get the Bug Ax — the first level two tool in the game — you must destroy at least two of the larger creatures in the game: the Ladybug and the Bombardier Beetle. On top of the ladybug head and the three Bombardier parts, you need four pieces of spider silk. This can come from large spiders like the Orb Weaver and Wolf Spider, from Spiderlings, or by hacking the web.
If picking up a ladybug head or part of a Bombardier doesn’t automatically unlock the bug ax upgrade, just take the materials to the field station for analysis. This should unlock the first of the desired level two tools.
Bug Hammer: How to Insert a Second Row Hammer Grounded

- Recipe: Four parts of a stink bug, four pieces of berry skin, one gland of a Bombardier beetle.
We were actually able to unlock the Insect Hammer long before the Insect Axe. Not that it really makes a difference, but most players want an ax before a hammer.
Unlocking the Insect Hammer means winning a fight with Stinkbug or Bombardier Beetle. You will need four pieces of stink bug parts, one Bombardier Beetle Boiling Gland, and four pieces of berry skin to assemble the bug hammer on the workbench. That is no easy feat.
So what can you do once you’ve dealt with the beasts needed to craft the Insect Hammer? Firstly, it is used to harvest the mints used in the incredibly powerful Mint Mallet. Currently, it is the strongest weapon in the game.
