Some types of VR experiences have been available for the Super Bowl for several years, but this year it’s a whole new game thanks to Bigscreen VR support. Bigscreen is a virtual reality app designed to let you watch content with friends (you can easily use it alone too).
Bigscreen has yet to announce its 2022 Super Bowl viewing, but it did host a live event last year and recently broadcast New Year’s Eve parties, so it’s a good bet they’ll be hosting Super Bowl events this year as well. If not, you can always manually stream from the website, which we’ll talk about next. The app is a great choice for an immersive experience or if you want to enjoy a game with VR-savvy friends while practicing social distancing. Here’s everything you need to do to get ready.
Make sure you have a compatible VR headset
You must have a VR headset that supports Bigscreen for this to work. The good news, and the reason we prefer this method, is that Bigscreen is compatible with almost all major VR models. That includes:
- All SteamVR headsets
- The Oculus Quest
- Oculus Rift/Rift S
- valve index
- live headphones
- All Windows Mixed Reality Headset
As long as you (and your friends) have one of these headphones, you should be good to go. If it’s been a while since you’ve used it, plug it in and make sure all firmware is up to date before you begin. You don’t want to get frustrated on game day trying to figure it out.

Now is the time to dive into the big screen. While there are many ways to use this app, setting up to watch the Super Bowl isn’t complicated. Here’s how to get started.
Step 1 – Navigate to the big screen page and select download files on the headset to get it. You can also find it on Steam. Once downloaded, select the app to run. We prefer to run in VR mode for ease of general use later.
Step 2: Choose Atmosphere when it first starts. It’s ok to choose the default Theater at home option, because that’s probably what you’d want for a private room for Super Bowl 2022.
Step 3 – Follow the instructions to confirm the headset and microphone, then continue with the other steps as indicated. You’ll learn how to get around, what it’s like to watch on the big screen, and how to interact with others.
Step 4 – Once you’re done, you can explore the environment, customize your avatar to your liking, and adjust to the experience. find time to go settings and make sure the display options are set to Show on the big screen. When you’re ready, you can select *Now Playing *to go to events and find something to watch.
Experiment with creating private VR rooms
Public spaces and independent viewing are easy ways to watch the Super Bowl without having to do more, and with an audio connection with friends (and enough bandwidth), this might be your best bet. However, if you want to emulate a private party at the 2022 Super Bowl, you’ll need to know how to set up your own VR room. Please note that your friends will also need to download Bigscreen and be logged in for this to work.
Step 1: Make sure you’re on My room part of the menu screen in Bigscreen. set the room to Private in server services section, then choose how many people to allow in the room. You can select up to 15 people, but this puts a lot of pressure on your Internet bandwidth, so it’s a good idea to limit yourself to a few if possible.
Give your room a name (when you create your Super Bowl room, you’ll want to name it accordingly, but for testing it doesn’t matter) and select Save.
Step 2: choose show room id and use Copy Option to save to clipboard. You can then share the ID in any way you like, such as an SMS or email invite.
Step 3 – Power On Review screen, your friend can choose Room ID to join and paste your ID number, then select Participate. Then you will be connected in the same room and you will be able to talk and communicate.
Step 4: You, as the host, can now start streaming the event live. your friends can go to Video player and make sure they broadcast the same if necessary. Your friends can adjust the volume individually, but only the host can control overall playback when the game starts.
Step 5: It would be nice to visit the TV section Big Screen Preview and check out all the live events. Testing a live event, even a conference or other sporting event, is a way to test the system, see how your Internet handles it, and then make a test connection with a friend. Try streaming from the website as well so you are happy with the process.
Set a reminder for the big day
Remember, Super Bowl 2022 is on February 13, 2022, broadcast on NBC from SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles at 3:30 p.m. PT or 6:30 p.m. ET. A few hours before that, you should be able to create a room, invite friends, and then go to Review either now he is playing.
