How to watch The Weather Channel without cable

There are a million ways to get weather information today. Windows, for example. Computers for another. But for many people, it’s still The Weather Channel, the ubiquitous channel that, appropriately, is all about the weather. In the channel

And while Hurricane Ian has already passed through Florida, the fun and destruction isn’t over yet, with the storm ripping through Savannah, Georgia, and the rest of the East Coast. That’s how hurricanes work, boys and girls. So it’s not time to turn off The Weather Channel yet.

But for those who no longer have cable TV, watching The Weather Channel can be surprisingly difficult. But we’ll take the work out of you and show you how to stream The Weather Channel online.

How to stream The Weather Channel

If you’re no longer a cable subscriber and want to watch The Weather Channel through one of America’s traditional streaming services (also known as MVPD, for distributors of multi-channel video programs), you’ll find you have surprisingly few options.

Those are bad news. The good news is that The Weather Channel is available on the most popular streaming service, YouTube TV. That means more than 5 million accounts can already stream The Weather Channel as part of a single YouTube TV streaming plan (which costs $65 per month as of this writing).

The next largest streaming service where you can also watch The Weather Channel is FuboTV, which at last count has just under a million subscribers. The Weather Channel is included there in their basic “Pro” plan, which costs $70 per month for 139 channels. The Weather Channel in Spanish is also available.

It’s worth noting that YouTube TV and Fubo TV are also the only streaming services to offer any sort of 4K option, though they’re mostly limited to live sports (or in YouTube TV’s case, a good chunk of on-demand content, too).

The Weather Channel is now also available on Hulu with Live TV. This is significant because Hulu With Live TV, in addition to being the second largest live streaming platform in the US, also includes subscriptions to the on-demand library of Hulu, ESPN+, and Disney+. Participating will cost you $75 per month.

The cheapest way to get the Weather Channel is through a streaming service called Frndly TV. (As in “friendly.”) Their basic plan costs $7 a month and gives you over 40 channels in SD video quality and the ability to watch on one device at a time. You get more options and better quality for $2 more, and total success for $11 a month.

And finally, you can stream The Weather Channel on DirecTV Stream. But you won’t find it in the cheapest plan. Instead, you’ll need to start with at least the “Choice” plan, which gets you 105 channels for $70 a month.

The Weather Channel TV app

If, for whatever reason, streaming from The Weather Channel isn’t your thing, there’s another option. “The Weather Channel TV App” is… a dedicated application to watch Weather Channel on your TV. It’s not quite the same as a live linear channel, but it’s better than nothing. With it, you’ll get weather alerts and updates, local forecasts, speed cameras, maps, and on-demand shows.

And it’s available almost everywhere such apps can be found, including Roku and Amazon Fire TV, which serves the two biggest streaming platforms. You can also find it on Android TV, Apple TV, Samsung Smart TV, and Xfinity Flex.

The Weather Channel TV app costs $3 per month or $30 per year. And as a bonus, if you’re already getting The Weather Channel in another way, whether it’s on cable TV or one of the streaming services we’ve listed above, you can subscribe to The Weather Channel TV app and get all of this too.
