Hydroxychloroquine is no longer authorized in France against the Covid-19

Since the end of March, hydroxychloroquine can be prescribed as a derogatory to the hospital and only for patients with severe.

The government on Wednesday lifted derogation provisions allowing the prescription of hydroxychloroquine against Covid-19 in a hospital in France, outside of clinical trials, following an unfavorable opinion from the High Council for Public Health, according to a decree in the official journal. .

The regulation published in the official gazette also puts an end to the prescription of clinical trials against Covid-19 of a drug that combines lopinavir and ritonavir, two antiretroviral drugs, which the MSNA points to because of the risk to the heart. The drug is sold in France under the name Kaletra.

From the end of March, hydroxychloroquine – a drug derivative of the anti-malarial drug chloroquine – could be prescribed as a derogatory hospital and only for seriously ill patients, upon a collegial decision of doctors.

This cancellation is a consequence of the publication of a study in the prestigious medical journal The Lancet that indicates the ineffectiveness and risks of using this drug for patients with Covid-19. That has already prompted the WHO (World Health Organization) to suspend clinical trials it is conducting with hydroxychloroquine in several countries on Monday as a precaution.

“The absence of a sufficiently strong clinical study”

On Saturday, in light of the Lancet study, Health Minister Olivier Veran entered the HCSP and proposes a “revision of the most important rules of limitation” established by the decree.

In its response, the HCSP recommends “not to use hydroxychloroquine alone or in combination with a macrolide (a family of antibiotics, editor’s note) in the treatment of Covid-19”. It also recommends “assessing the benefit/risk of using hydroxychloroquine in treatment trials” and “strengthening national and international regulation” of these tests.

to reach these conclusions, the HCSP analyzed “publications on the subject, including an article in the Lancet,” as well as “reports from regional pharmacovigilance centers on potentially serious side effects, especially cardiovascular, related to the use of this drug. drug.” He concluded “in the absence of a sufficiently robust clinical study to demonstrate the efficacy of hydroxychloroquine in Covid-19 regardless of the severity of the infection.”

“It’s an opinion like any other, if you want, I don’t care. The real problem is credibility, who is credible?”, Didier Raoult reacted during an interview on Tuesday on LCI in the 24 SATA Pujadas show. He also disputed the opinion of the WHO, for which he is accused of “talking nonsense all the time”. He has already qualified the study in Lancet as a “half push”.
